Two well-defined seasons: one dry (July to November) and one rainy (December to June). At the beginning of the rainy season the water is quickly absorbed, but later on the soil gradually becomes waterlogged. Plant-covered ponds, pools and baías start forming and new watercourses of widely varying sizes are formed.
To start planning your vacation to Sacha Lodge
Sacha Lodge is a unique eco-lodge in the heart of Ecuador’s Amazon Basin and is a haven for nature lovers, bird watchers and adventure seekers. Explore the rainforest on canopy walkways, forest trails and canoe excursions for an unforgettable experience.
Located in the depths of the Ecuadorian Amazon, Sacha Lodge is a unique, rustic eco-lodge which offers memorable adventures exploring the rainforest from the moment you step off the plane in Coca.
Sacha Lodge provides comfortable accommodation in wooden cabins with high thatched roofs and private shaded terraces that are connected by raised wooden walkways, allowing you to be immersed in the jungle in comfort. When not busy exploring the rainforest, it is possible to observe wildlife such as toucans, agoutis and monkeys right from the terraces on each of the cabins.
A variety of excursions are included in each stay at Sacha Lodge which offer a perfect introduction to the unique and varied ecosystem of the Amazon. Head out with a guide and enjoy canoeing along blackwater creeks, piranha fishing, night walks through the jungle, visits to a nearby parrot clay-lick and swimming in the lake in front of the lodge. Guests are divided into small groups each day and led by a native guide and a bilingual naturalist guide educated in the biology and ecology of the area.
One of Sacha Lodge’s highlights is the 43-meter tall observation tower. Situated on a hill and constructed around a giant kapok tree for stability, the tower allows guests to climb into and above the rainforest canopy for a magnificent view of the surrounding area. There is also a huge canopy walkway which sits approximately 30 meters up in the forest canopy and measures 275 meters long, providing guests an opportunity to walk through the treetops at their own pace and take in the stunning surroundings.
There are 26 cabins at Sacha Lodge, all of which are simple yet spacious and provide private shaded terraces complete with hammocks, along with en-suite bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot-water showers. There are a mixture of single, double and triple cabins, as well as three family cabins. All rooms have ceiling fans and are screened against insects.
Facilities at the lodge include a covered al fresco dining and lounge area on the shore of the lake where breakfast and lunch buffets are served, with a separate bar upstairs for cosy evenings or a place to unwind between excursions. There is an indoor restaurant with insect screens too where a la carte dinners are served in the evening.Food is a mix of Ecuadorian classics with international cuisine and for at least one evening during your stay there will be a BBQ on the Balsa with grilled fish, meat and vegetables. The lodge can cater to vegetarians with advance warning. Great care is taken to ensure ingredients are responsibly sourced.
WiFi is available in common areas for an additional charge. Purified water is available at multiple points around the lodge and boots and ponchos are on hand for excursions and are included in your stay.
Each program includes a selection of guided daily activities in small groups (maximum 6 people). You'll have the chance to explore the Amazon on paddle canoes as you look for wildlife along the creeks and tributaries, wander along trails though the forest, climb up to the forest canopy and soak in the views as you experience the canopy tower, walkway and crane. Enjoy community visits and a visit to a parrot clay-lick, along with swimming in the lake pool back at the lodge or discovering colorful species in the butterfly house.
