All year round destination. Due to its position on the equator and its altitude, Quito’s temperature varies greatly between night and day. Daytime temperatures average 23-25ºC, while at night temperatures drop to around 10ºC. In general, days are clear in the morning and cloud over in the afternoon, with rain common in the afternoon. The drier season runs from the end of May to the end September, with another brief summertime in early December (which coincides nicely with the city’s fiestas).

Plaza Grande is a characterful luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Quito's historic district. This striking property sits on the corner of the impressive Plaza Independencia, surrounded by fascinating colonial architecture and cultural attractions.
Hotel Plaza Grande has a fabulous location facing Quito’s central square and is surrounded by characteristic buildings: the Metropolitan Cathedral, Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace and the modern City Hall. It was one of the first hotels to be opened in the city, back in the 16th century, and has today been lovingly restored to become one of Quito's finest boutique hotels, preserving all the original colonial charm.
Step back in time in one of the hotel's 15 luxury suites, with the most elegant of furnishings. The decoration in earth tones has Victorian touches with extensive use of fine dark woods in the uniquely designed furniture, wall fixings, ceilings and floors. Fresh flowers in every room are part of the decoration and bathrooms are very spacious, each with a Jacuzzi and heated floor.
The main dining room is La Belle Époque, which overlooks the Plaza and specializes in high gourmet French cuisine. The Café Plaza Grande serves traditional local cuisine and at The Cloister Wine Bar, open every evening, guests can enjoy live music in a medieval ambiance. A Cognac and Cigar Bar and a Champagne Bar are located on the upper floor, and a gym, small spa, sauna and massage room is located on the first floor.
The 15 luxury suites at Plaza Grande are tastefully decorated with fine carved wood furniture, grand chandeliers and plush beds with fine linens, plus modern comforts such as television and air conditioning. The 11 Royal Suites include a small sitting area, the three Plaza View Suites have a small sitting area and views of the Plaza de Independencia and Panecillo hill. The Presidential Suite is the height of luxury with a lounge, dining room, kitchen and three balconies overlooking the square.
Children are welcome at Hotel Plaza Grande. There are no formal children's facilities although babysitting, cots and extra beds can all be arranged on request.
Facilities at Hotel Plaza Grande include a gourmet French Restaurant, another restaurant offering Ecuadorian specialties, a cosy wine cellar, champagne bar and lobby bar, gym, small spa and sauna. The hotel also has its own carriage for evening rides around Quito's historic quarter.
Guests at Plaza Grande Hotel are perfectly located to explore the beautiful city of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the best preserved colonial cities in the Americas, with a wealth of beautiful churches, monasteries and other historical buildings. It is possible to arrange a ride on the teleferico cable car, with fantastic views over the city and the snow-capped mountains or a trip to one of the colorful Indian markets such as Otavalo or Saquisili.

Location, location, location! The Plaza Grande is slap bang in the heart of Old Quito opposite the Presidential Palace and gorgeous main Plaza and is within walking distance of the city's top cultural attractions. I really liked the old world charm and sense of history about the place and the suites are very spacious. The hotel has an intimate feel and the overall style is very traditional.
Located slap-bang on the capital's main square, Plaza Grande, you can almost shake hands with the President from the Plaza Grande hotel's balconies and the building is a landmark in itself. It is exclusive, elegant and even decadent throughout. And truly boutique: there are 15 suites in all, divided into Plaza View and Royal, with one Presidential Suite (and the presidential $2,000 price tag to match).
Plaza Grande is housed within the shell of the former Hotel Majestic, the capital's flagship offering for nearly half a century. The new owners gutted it entirely and replaced it with this top-of-the-line offering, which includes three restaurants, function room, small spa and gym, wireless internet, and limousine service. The faultless service is another added bonus: they bend over backwards to please and with only 15 suites, personal service is a given.
The entrance could be grander, but it is sumptuous inside. The ground floor is occupied by reception and the hotel's restaurant-caf serving international and Ecuadorian favorites, which would have benefited from a terrace with outside tables. It's a popular power lunch spot for officials and business owners, but also a deservedly popular restaurant for tourists, with local dishes taken up a few notches in refinement and strolling musicians adding a festive air.
The suites themselves are spread over the second and third floors. They are all luxurious and spacious, boasting rich furnishings, original works of art, repro colonial armoires, mirrors, closets and desks, and plenty of drapery to give that old world feel. The social areas have large, comfortable sofas and armchairs, while the sizeable bedrooms come with huge beds embellished with Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffed up goose-down pillows. The bathrooms, too, are truly spacious, with Jacuzzi-shower combination tubs, ample toiletries, luxury robes and slippers, and a great touch--under floor heating for those cold morning tootsies.
The Plaza View suites justify their higher price tag with more ample bathrooms, containing handsome marble and wood washbasins and balconies with views of the main square below or Garcia Moreno street. Three of these (24, 25 and 34) occupy the corner positions, thus giving you the best of both worlds. All the rooms are individually air-conditioned and come with a long list of amenities including 42 flat screen TVs and healthily-stocked minibars. The desk has a great 'ink and quill' writing set, ideal for that authentic colonial postcard home.
The hotel has caused a stir in local tourism circles (not least for eye-popping room rates that are double what the less evocative business hotels are charging) and has been the centerpiece of a dramatic old city revival. For upscale travelers the Plaza Grande is the place to stay in the heart of Quito, outdoing the Patio Andaluz in luxury several times over. If you want to be close to the action in Quito's rejuvenated World Heritage heart and have the best food and service at your fingertips, then the luxurious Plaza Grande Quito boutique hotel is a no-brainer.
