Aptly named, El Silencio offered true, unadulterated peace after the excitement of the jungle. Located in the mystical looking cloud forest, this oasis of calm offered great food, luxurious furnishings, and a romantic setting to unwind in. The Villas in particular are wonderful - and perfect for families or groups looking for some refined comfort in the central area of Costa Rica. Featuring on the Relais Chateaux coveted portfolio, everything here just offers comfort and indulgence. Great food and stunning surroundings make this particular property the perfect place to have some privacy, and relaxation in calm of the cloud forest.

El Silencio feels like a complete retreat from the world perched high in the cloud forest it sits shrouded in mist a world away from the humid jungles and crystal waters of the rest of Costa Rica. This is not a hotel for those seeking sunshine and shorts weather. It is however an incredible place to soak up the wonders of the cloud forest from incredibly rare birds not found anywhere else on the planet to the thick forest trails easily accessible from the hotel that lead to towering waterfalls and secret plunge pools for the hardy swimmer. What really stands out about the hotel is the quality of its restaurant and commitment to providing the freshest and very highest quality cuisine. Our dinner here was fantastic and the fact it was served in such a wild and beautiful setting only added to it. It was on my walk the following morning that I discovered the substantial vegetable garden, trout ponds and chickens that has comprised the meal and all of a sudden it made sense!
