Xaranna Tented Camp is a small intimate camp with sweeping views opening up onto a permanent lagoon teeming with hippo. The Camp combines the best of what the Okavango has to offer, both on land and the water, accompanied by expert guides and trackers.
Reachable only by boat during the high water season, this intimate camp with only nine tents offers an exclusive experience steeped in the wonder and magic of this extraordinary ecosystem. Xaranna enjoys 25,000 hectares of pristine wilderness which will be shared by only 18 guests at any one time, meaning a totally private experience. Xaranna's guides are among the best and will gently introduce guests to the surrounding area and its resident game.
As well as excellent big game viewing there are diverse bird and plant species to enjoy, including the elusive Pel’s fishing owl. Bee eaters frequent the area and can often be seen in their noisy colonies and kingfishers can often be spotted darting in and out of the reeds.
Guided walking, 4x4, mokoro and powerboat adventures are all on offer - and the boat trips up the swollen waterways are a particular highlight, the boat able to drift up almost silently to game, giving amazing photographic opportunities.
Meals are a relaxed and friendly affair, complemented by delicious pan-African cuisine. The carefully positioned guest areas maximize the sweeping views across the channels, with classic delta tree-line silhouettes. The main guest areas offer a spacious games and reading area as well as a shaded veranda for dining.
Each spacious tent enjoys gorgeous views, as well as a romantic sala and private plunge pool.
The camp features nine sleek en-suite safari tents with breathtaking views over the channel. Each tent has a luxurious four poster bed of blonde wood squat on bleached floors together with a romantic sala and a alluring private plunge pool. The en-suite features a deep, warm comforting bath tub and a refreshing shower.
Children are welcome but children aged under 6 years are not permitted on game drives, walks and mokoro activities. Children 16 years and older can participate in guided walks and mokoro activities. Childminders can be booked at an additional cost. Children aged 6 to 11 years are accommodated
on game drives at the lodge manager’s discretion. An extra bed can be arranged for a child sharing its
parents’ suite. No more than 1 triple in camp at any one time.
The intimate guest sitting area boasts a spacious reading area, perfect for afternoon relaxation. The innovative dining area features shady verandas overlooking the channels of the Delta. A fully stocked Safari Shop has chic safari gear, African art and jewelry.
Massages can be arranged. Helicopter transfers and flights available at an extra cost.
Activities revolve around game viewing with morning, afternoon/early evening game drives in open 4x4
safari vehicles, boating and mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) adventures in the Delta, and guided walks. The camp is in an excellent area for birdwatching. Fishing is permitted between the months of March and December.

Open aired and decorated in whites and pinks you feel close to the beautiful elements but secure with all your creature comforts. Elephants crossing in the channels ahead of your during breakfast, meandering down channels made by hippos and spotting the rare Pels fishing owl are just some of the unique activities that take place in this beautiful water based camp.

I loved Xakarana’s unique take on safari lodge design. The lodge is constructed with lots of light wood and filled with funky white artifacts; from huge wooden hippos on the walkways to little crocodiles on the tables. The color scheme is pink and green – which sounds a bit random…but it works. It is about as far from a traditional lodge as you can get, so I think it does have a slight ‘Marmite’ element to it but I loved it.
&Beyond Wild Child program
Specially designed activities ensure your children get the most out of their safari experience, with activities such as tracking footprints and making traditional bows and arrows to add to game drives with their parents.
