To start planning your vacation to Kwara

Kwara is located in the remote northern part of the Okavango Delta within the private Kwara Concession. The nine canvas tents are built on raised decks in a grove of huge and ancient African ebony trees.

Recently reopened in September 2019 after an extensive refurbishment, Kwara is set in a wilderness area in excess of 1,700 square kilometers and bordering the Moremi Reserve. No trip to Botswana is complete without a visit to the Delta, the watery jewel in the middle of the Kalahari Desert. Kwara encompasses a wide range of diverse habitats, ranging from the clear delta waters with reed-lined lagoons and channels, to open grasslands, mopane woodlands and palm-fringed islands.

Here you can enjoy a diverse wildlife experience all year round, but the focus is on the water, whether gliding along in the special silence of a mokoro (dugout canoe) through crystal-clear waters, or visiting the famous Godikwe Lagoon, where you can stand on a boat literally eye to eye with thousands of herons, storks and other nesting birds. As well as bird watching, fishing (both spinner and fly), walks with a guide on one of the many palm-fringed islands, and interesting night drives are also on offer.

Accommodation comprises nine canvas en-suite tents which offer incredible views over the flood plain in front of camp where the resident hippos serenade you year-round. Each tent has its own viewing deck and private en-suite facilities including hot and cold running showers, flush toilets and modern amenities. The tents are spacious and open-plan with a classic safari feel design  with comfortable armchairs, a classic writing desk and wooden floors throughout. The main areas are the heart of the camp with main bar and lounge area looking out over the flood plains, a large fire pit area, perfect for sundowners and plenty of space to relax before and after game drives.

Kwara Camp offers nine newly designed canvas safari tents all with large en-suite bathrooms and free-standing bathtubs. Tents have been built on raised wooden decks to provide better views over the flood plains in front of camp. Inside the tents, there is a double bed with mosquito net and fan above the bed to keep guests cool during warm evenings, as well as a separate lounge area with an armchair and sofa and a classic writing desk. The en-suite bathroom also serves as a dressing room and separates the bedroom with a large window to create an open-plan feel, along with a free standing bath and indoor and outdoor showers.

Kwara is an adult-only camp and has an age limit of a minimum of 18 years old, with no family rooms available.

Facilities available at Kwara Camp includes 2 small swimming pool areas at each end of camp to offer some private lounge areas which come complete with a small bar and pool loungers for guests to make us of. The rest of camp comprises a lounge and dining area and a curio shop.

Guests staying at Kwara can enjoy some exclusive game viewing, with only 4 guests at a time in any game vehicle, offering a more personalized game experience from your guide and tracker. Game drives at Kwara can be taken during the day and night, as well as off-road being available too. When not out on game drives, guides will be available to take guests on walking safaris, on mokoro trips, boat cruises and even seasonal fishing.

  • Helicopter ride over the Delta

The Okavango Delta is a vast patchwork of deep-water channels, shallow lagoons and date palm islands, fringed with the ubiquitous papyrus reeds. A doors-off scenic helicopter flight is an exhilarating way to take in these sights and a real treat, too!
