Campfire Cooking at Melton Manor

The South Africans take a lot of pride in their cuisine, and none more so than their barbequeing skills. Learn to become a "braaimaster", preparing a 3 course meal over an open campfire, cooking meats including kudu, ostrich and gemsbok. You'll make traditional accompaniments such as mielie (corn) bread and chakalaka (spicy tomato relish), learn how to make boerewors, a spiced sausage and a key ingredient of any braai. Variations are offered to adapt menus once you return home, and there'll be plenty of instruction about how to get the best flavour and tenderness, and achieving the optimum temperature for cooking on an open flame.
You will also have a session in the kitchen with the chef learning how to make some favourite South African desserts, including malva flavoured doughnuts, koeksisters, melktert and more, as well as transforming edible plants found on the reserve into a sorbet.
For foodies, this is a great way to combine your safari with learning some new culinary skills!
