Tordrillo Mountain Lodge Helicopter-led Adventures
Only accessible by seaplane, and surrounded by one-of-a-kind scenery and terrain, Tordrillo Mountain Lodge has its own fleet of helicopters, allowing guests to maximize the potential for outdoor adventure and daily helicopter adventures are included. From mid-February to late April, guests can enjoy heli-skiing and boarding with expert guides and pilots, providing access to endless pristine runs to suit all abilities. While during the month of June, guests can experience the thrill of heli-skiing or boarding in the morning on corn snow, combined with king salmon fishing on the same day. This popular activity is known as Kings and Corn.
The helicopters allow guests to access some of the world’s most remote fishing spots in the Tordrillo Mountains. All five species of salmon, rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, Arctic Char and Northern Pike are found in the waters here. The main advantage of heli-fishing is that the helicopters can reach spots inaccessible to floatplanes and boats and those fishing will enjoy having the area to themselves.
Along with flightseeing trips over this jaw-dropping landscape scouting for wildlife and taking in the terrain, heli-hiking is another popular activity on offer, led by experienced and expert guides. In the warmer months, heli-rafting trips will land guests along the float sections of the Talachulitna River for white water fun. There’s even heli-climbing on offer as the lodge offers a chance to scale the first via ferrata, ‘iron path,’ in Alaska. After arriving by helicopter, climbers set off along a steel cable climbing route which is attached to the mountainside. This means that even those with no climbing experience can enjoy the thrill of high mountain climbing and soak up the amazing views. The helicopter waits at the top to whisk climbers back to the lodge.
