Set at the furthest inland extent of a grid of roads appropriately named after European ski resorts, Hotel Alyeska has the ambience of a large Alpine hotel. The facilities are typical of those one might have come to expect in the 'lower 48', but are exceptional for Alaska. There is great choice in rooms, interconnectivity etc and the restaurants, particularly the fine dining 'Seven Glaciers' at the top of the cable car are very good. The hotel is said to be busier in summer than winter despite being conceived as the state's premier ski destination. It is not certain there would be sufficient to occupy an adventurous party for more than two or three nights, although there is dog-mushing on the glacier in summer and some hikes on trails, and mountain biking on the mountain-side.
One for the adventurous, the bike trails at Alyeska are perfect for adrenaline junkies and will truly test your skills as you go for a spin along boardwalks and along the scenic Turnagain Arm for amazing views.
Set in the midst of the Chugach mountains, Hotel Alyeska is ideally placed to enjoy hiking whatever your ability. Several trails can be reached from the resort or by taking the aerial tram and provide fantastic opportunities to soak in the surroundings.
