Average time to visit
Fall is Martha's Vineyard's most glorious season, though spring and summer are pleasant as well. These times bring in healthy-sized crowds due to favourable weather and special events. Weather usually remains warm throughout September, while cooler temperatures in October bring out the colorful foliage. Winter lasts too long for most people's tastes, stretching from December to April. During this period, visitors can expect temperatures below freezing and plenty of snow.

Description
Built in 1891, overlooking Martha’s Vineyard’s Edgartown Lighthouse, Edgartown Harbor and Chappaquiddick Island with sweeping sea views, the Harbor View Hotel is perfectly located to explore the beauty of Martha's Vineyard.
Originally opened on the Edgartown Harbour in 1891, this grand shingle style New-England–style resort is the town's oldest hotel and with 141 rooms and suites spread among two main buildings and several cottages it is the largest hotel on Martha's Vineyard. Perfectly positioned within walking distance of the charming harbor town of Edgartown and with sweeping views over the sea towards Chappaquiddick Island , this is a perfect beach side hotel for a summer break.
Fresh blue and whites create a maritime feel for this seaside hotel which has both rooms in the main building (some overlooking the sea) and charming cottages of rooms in the surrounding gardens which are perfect for couples and families alike.
There are a selection of rooms and cottage suites which have been decorated with fresh beach colors and have the best of everything: kitchenettes, walk-in closets, flat-screen TVs, fireplaces, private gardens, and outdoor showers. Ask for suite 24 in the cottages for its relative seclusion, ocean view or for any of the more traditionally decorated, ocean-facing rooms in the main house.
You have the choice of all the restaurants of Edgartown on your doorstep but feeling lazy then try their spacious restaurant, Water Street overlooking the bay. Sophisticated New England–style dishes, and the comfortable bar, Henry's, serves an all-day menu and the restaurant has a large wrap around veranda where you can enjoy a cocktail watching the yachts sail by.
One of their attractions is to take out their 31-foot center console boat which will ferry you to a private beach for a picnic or let your children learn to sail from their private jetty and small beach where they have an excellent sailing program. Explore the quaint town of Edgartown on a bicycle or a short walk. With golf, dining, beaching, sailing, their outdoor heated pool and small beach the Harbor View is a wonderful spot to explore the many attractions and activities offered Martha's Vineyard.
Accommodation
Harbor View has 114 elegant rooms and suites found in the main building, the Governor Mayhew Building and in cottages found on the hotel's grounds. Rooms in the Main Building have either a king or queen sized bed, some have porches and some have views of the water. In the Governor Mayhew building, rooms have either two double beds or one king bed. They either have a view of the pool or the garden which is visible from their private balconies. The cottages feature either one-bedroom, two-bedroom or three-bedroom suites. All the suites have living rooms, some have kitchens in addition, but they all have lovely views of the surrounding scenery.
Childcare
Children are welcome to come and stay at Harbor View and it is a popular choice with families with its pool and easy access to the beach. The condo-style accommodation is an ideal choice if you are traveling with children as they have their own kitchens and are more spacious. A babysitter can be arranged with prior notice if parents would like some time out.
Facilities
Henry's Hotel Bar is a sophisticated Edgartown restaurant offering a tapas style menu using ingredients from local farms and fishermen. Water Street is an award-winning restaurant serving contemporary New England cuisine. Chef Sells only uses products sourced locally to ensure freshness and taste. The food menu is of course, complemented by a fine wine list featuring bottles from America and Spain.
Activities
During your stay at Harbor View, the majority of activities will be water based. The hotel has its own private dock for fishing, sailing and cruising excursions, tours and lessons. The cruises can take you around the Nantucket Islands, on a vineyard tour or to see the breathtaking sunset.
In Edgartwon itself there are plenty of sites to see such as the lighthouse, the public library, Mytoi Japanese garden and Martha's Vineyard Museum. There are also many boutique shops to include a range of clothing, jewelry, arts and antiques.
