Days 1-3: Colonia del Sacramento
Upon arrival in Montevideo, you will be transferred to the quaint colonial town of Colonia del Sacramento. Enjoy a relaxed couple of days as you meander through the cobbled streets of this pretty town, admiring the colonial architecture of its buildings and enjoy leisurely lunches out on its leafy plazas. There’s a very photogenic lighthouse that you can climb for an aerial view and finish the day with a glass of wine whilst watching the sunset over the mighty River Plate and Buenos Aires on the horizon.
Accommodation: Charco Hotel (2 nights)

Days 3-6: Carmelo
Today marks the start of your Uruguayan road trip as you pick up the keys to your car and drive towards Carmelo. Your home for the next few days is a true boutique bolt-hole, surrounded by picturesque vineyards. Days 8-11: Uruguayan Countryside
Upon leaving Montevideo, you escape the hustle and bustle in exchange for Uruguay’s bucolic countryside. Experience authentic rural life at this family run property where you’ll be welcomed with open arms by the lovely owners, Ursula and Diego. Their hospitality and the relaxed atmosphere is what makes staying here such a memorable experience. There are plenty of things to do in the area; horse riding, canoeing on the nearby river, cycling, hiking, swimming or just hanging out on the terrace and reading a good book. Days 11-14: Uruguayan Countryside
You’ll notice the roads are even quieter and the scenery more spectacular as you drive towards Rocha and your second stay at an estancia. As one of our favorite spots in Uruguay, we think you’ll love being encompassed by Uruguay’s rolling countryside and the surrounding lagoons teeming with wildlife. Over the next few days, you’ll have plenty of opportunity for horse-riding, birdwatching or hiking. We also recommend you venture out to visit one of the nearby beaches of La Pedrera or La Paloma or for a little adventure head to Cabo Polonio’s famous sand dunes and sealion colony. In the evening, back at the estancia, you’ll enjoy mouth-watering homecooked meals which are best accompanied by a bottle of the region’s fabulous wine, whilst you share stories with other guests or cosy up beside the roaring open fire.

From Rocha you’ll drive to the beautiful coastline of Jose Ignacio. This hip little place offers a great escape from city life, where you can enjoy spectacular golden beaches, sunny coastal walks and some fantastic dining options with views out over the Atlantic Ocean. We’ve chosen a cool little hotel that serves you a delicious breakfast wherever you’d like to take it each morning, and there are complimentary bikes to help you explore the scenic coastline. So kickback, relax and look out for the occasional celebrity whilst soaking up the last of the warm sun.
