It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a remote pub with a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the country.

For modern boutique accommodation with an excellent bar and accomplished Chex Roux restaurant, the Rocpool Reserve Hotel makes a comfortable base in the heart of Inverness, with spa-style ensuite-bathrooms and the option of a private outdoor hot tub.

Housed in a handsome Georgian mansion, the classical exterior of the Rocpool Reserve Hotel does not reflect the indulgent and contemporary interiors, full of modern style and drama, with a palette of deep red, burnished gold and dark chocolate. Each room has been individually-designed and includes a spa-style en-suite bathroom. The staff are warm and welcoming and it is an easy 10-minute stroll into Inverness city center and Inverness Castle. With a popular cocktail bar and excellent Chez Roux Restaurant, the Rocpool Reserve makes a comfortable boutique base for exploring the city and Scottish Highlands.

There are four room categories: Hip; Chic; Decadent and Extra Decadent. All rooms feature large emperor-size beds and include Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, fully-stocked minibar, premium linens and toiletries, safe, hairdryer and Tassimo coffee, tea and hot chocolate maker. Other features include split-level rooms, Bose Bluetooth sound system, private balcony with outdoor hot tub, sauna, deep bathtubs and double walk-in rain showers, dependent on your choice of room. Hair straighteners, DVDs and in-room massage are available on request. While the general decor is modern and comfortable, some may consider it a little dated.

The Chex Roux Restaurant is Albert Roux’s first in Scotland and uses fresh Scottish ingredients with a French twist. The accomplished chef creates modern elegant cuisine and the food is a highlight of the property. Breakfast is cooked to order and there is both a la carte and set menu dining for both lunch and dinner. There is also a RouXpress Menu of four small courses representing good value for money available at lunchtime and throughout the day in the R Bar, the hotel’s popular cocktail bar. Well-located for exploring the charms of Inverness, the Rocpool Reserve makes a comfortable and friendly base.

Each room varies in size and design offering a choice from the smaller Hip rooms to the Extra Decadent with private balcony and outdoor hot tub, but all enjoy indulgent spa-style en-suite bathroom. While the décor is not cutting-edge or contemporary in style, it is modern and comfortable.

Children are welcome and extra beds, cots and high chairs can be provided along with a special children’s menu. In addition, board games and DVDs are available to borrow from reception.


The Chez Roux Restaurant is a highlight of the property with some creative and inspired cooking. The breakfasts are cooked to order and will set you up for the day. Popular with locals, the R Bar is a lovely place to relax with a pre-dinner cocktail or relaxing nightcap. Board games and DVDs are also available to borrow on request.


The hotel is just a 10-minute walk from the city center where you will find Inverness Castle and makes a good base for exploring the wider Scottish Highlands. Activities including walking through the beautiful glens, wildlife spotting, fishing, horse riding, boat cruises on Loch Ness, taking a tour of the local whisky distilleries and playing championship golf courses.
