Calcot Manor manages the seemingly impossible task of appealing to both families and couples. Parents looking for a rural retreat with activities for the little ones will not be disappointed. In summer the outdoor swimming pool and play facilities allow children to blow off steam and enjoy the sunshine, while The Mez, filled with games consoles, computers and even a small cinema, is a perfect bolthole when the weather is not so clement. For days when mum and dad need a break, there is an Ofsted registered crèche.

There are also ten rooms and suites especially designed for families, located away from the main building in the converted barn. The suites especially are particularly spacious and have separate sleeping areas, while all the family rooms have a baby-listening service and a TV and DVD player for rainy days and quiet evenings. For tiny ones, rooms come equipped with a sterilizer, bottle warmer and changing mat.

For those with romance in mind, the twelve bedrooms in the main building are perfect for couples. Little touches make all the difference and each room has been carefully designed with comfort in mind, from the in-room music systems to big baths and fluffy robes.

Pool-wise there is a choice of three: a spacious outdoor hot spa pool, a larger indoor pool perfect for lengths and a separate pool where the children can splash about to their heart's content. Set in a quiet corner of the hotel, the spa is a haven of relaxation and special spa days and treatment packages are available.

When hunger strikes you have a choice of two restaurants: fine dining in The Conservatory, which serves Mediterranean influenced dishes created from local produce and hearty gastro-fare in The Gumstool Inn, a traditional country pub.

When you have exhausted the facilities at the hotel there is plenty of entertainment to be found locally, not least by exploring the leafy countryside of the Cotswolds. Cycling and walking trails wind around the hotel's grounds and bikes are available free of charge to guests if you have not brought your own. For keen golfers there are two clubs within twenty minutes of the Calcot Manor: Minchinhampton and Cirencester. Indoor go-karting is available close by too. For afternoons of the more relaxed variety, hit the high street in Tetbury to browse the local shops filled with antiques, vintage clothing and handmade jewelry.
