The best time to visit Oman is between November and mid-March, when the cooler air brings the mountain scenery sharply into focus and daytime temperatures average 25°C. For the rest of the year, much of Oman is oppressively hot and hazy, particularly between May and August.
Sand Rivers is closed in April and May. Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, typically considered the best months for game-viewing as the wildlife is more concentrated around water sources and the grass is grazed and trampled down. Selous and southern Tanzania is typically hot and humid from December to May, without a dry period to break up the rains, so travel is not recommended during the British winter months.

Fly to Dubai
Musandam Peninsula
Touching down in Dubai International Airport, you’ll be met by your driver and transferred by 4x4 through this mountainous region. For a truly unique way to arrive at Zighy Bay, you can paraglide from the top of the mountain behind the resort and watch the emerald waters unravel before your eyes as you descend down on the powdery sand beach. If this James Bond style entrance isn’t quite what you had in mind, then you can arrive on a speed boat from Dubai’s harbor, or carry on driving through the spellbinding scenery in a 4x4. This barefoot luxury resort mimics a traditional Omani village and is tucked away in a cove, encased by jagged mountains and the glistening ocean, making the perfect escape to spend your days basking in the sun with doses of adventure to enjoy in between. Settle into your serene private villa and plan your days ahead.
There is no shortage of activities to enjoy in the surrounds of Zighy Bay. Venture through the trails of Musandam for some phenomenal viewpoints or grab a kayak and paddle along the rugged coastline. Snorkel over the incredible reefs brimming with marine life or dive into the depths in search for turtles and stingrays. For something really special, book a sunset cruise and feel the romance of the Musandam Fjords as you watch the sky turn a vivid orange hue. Back at the resort, your dining experience is a real highlight here, as you relish on fine cuisine in a secluded alcove or along the private beach, before reclining in total comfort at Cinema Paradiso on the beach under a blanket of star constellations.
Selous Game Reserve
From this off-the-grid beach retreat you’ll soon be on your way to the wilderness area of the Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania, to begin your safari adventure. You’ll catch a flight from Dubai to Dar Es Salaam, where you’ll hop onto a light aircraft to the Selous. Flying low over this labyrinth of waterways, wetlands and verdant forests you will arrive at the airstrip and meet your guide who will game drive you to Sand Rivers. You will feel completely at one with nature as you arrive at your wilderness home, which is embedded along the Rufiji River. Sand Rivers has a simplistic luxury about it and each room opens up to the sights and sounds of the wild, so early morning’s won’t be difficult here as you awake to gentle bird calls and a magical sunrise from the comfort of your king size bed.
Experience freedom as you never have before as you venture out in open safari vehicles in search for wildlife such as elephants, lions and giraffes. Feel your senses awaken as you embark on a walking safari, spotting the tracks of the rare African wild dog and meandering past the river, before spending the night under a blanket of stars as you camp out under canvas in the depths of the wild. Enjoy a boat safari on the Rufiji River and observe the vibrant colors of kingfishers as you float past pods of hippos, while gazing out at a herd of elephants drinking from the water’s edge, kicking up the dust in the glow of the evening sun.
