Intimate yet chic, Karawan Riad is a luxurious option for discerning visitors to the fascinating city of Fes. Its seven suites have been lovingly furnished with antiques, artwork and artifacts from all over Morocco and the rest of the continent.
Located near the Andalous Quarter of central Fes, Karawan Riad is a fantastic base to discover this fascinating city.
Karawan's French owners have spent the last years lovingly restoring the riad and furnishing the seven suites with carefully chosen antiques and works of art collected on their travels around Africa. The style reflects the days of the caravans which crossed Morocco in days of old, laden with spices and silks. However, now instead of traders pausing during their voyage, it’s an elegant resting place of lovers of design, culture, and luxury.
Arriving at Karawan Riad guests cannot fail to be impressed by the elegant and beautifully restored 17th century courtyard around which the suites and public areas are located. As is the tradition in Fes, the courtyard is open to the blue skies above and decorated with a traditional marble fountain. As first floor rooms always tend to be the most popular in traditional riads, Karawan has the restaurant, hammam, spa and library on the ground floor with all the suites above, offering views into the central courtyard.
Karawan Riad has seven suites which have been decorated with inimitable style and unique decor. Each has a king-sized bed, organic bathroom amenities and iPod docking stations. Every room boasts its own private balcony, garden or terrace.
The Suhaili Suite consists of a spacious bedroom with a comfortable lounge area, and boasts its own private terrace which can be interconnected with the adjoining Laawan Suite terrace.
The Laawan Suite is a haven decorated in neutral colors and offering ample space. The bathroom boasts a large sunken stone bath, and outside there is a private walled garden which can interconnect with the adjoining Suhaili Suite.
Traditionally decorated and with an original carved plaster wall, the Zephyr Suite is spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is located on the mezzanine level, although the real showstopper is the secluded balcony which offers views towards the Merinid Tombs in the hazy distance.
This tribal and rustic themed suite is the most intimate in the hotel, undoubtedly the real winner is the sunken stone bath, best enjoyed with a glass of wine. Enjoy the sun from the private terrace, complete with a secluded outdoor dining area.
The beautiful Harmattan Suite is inspired by the Silk Road, decorated with bright whites and vibrant reds. The bedroom is spacious and there is a comfortable living area, while outside the private balcony offers views across the courtyard.
The Chergui Suite epitomizes the Morocco of the past. The room is spacious with an open-plan bedroom and study area, as well as a comfortable lounge on the mezzanine level. The room has its own private balcony with a view over the courtyard.
The Dzhari Suite is Karawan Riad's most contemporary and boasts two private balconies overlooking the courtyard. The modern design of this spacious room is paired with antique furnishings to create a warm and welcoming space.
Karawan Riad does not accept children under the age of 12.
At dinner, which must be reserved, there is a constantly changing fine dining menu consisting of beautifully presented Moroccan and Mediterranean specialties accompanied by a Moroccan/French wine list. The riad offers different areas for lounging and enjoying a drink indoors and outdoors in different areas of the property - the library is especially comfortable and charming, while the rooftop terrace offers fantastic views.
For guests looking to unwind, Karawan Riad has a spa with a traditional hammam. There are a range of nearby activities and tours to enhance your stay in Fes. If you are staying for a night or two, we propose a cultural tour of the monuments of the medina with one of our local guides, or a gastronomic tour of the souks tasting some of the local specialties.
