Classic Luxury

The Edition Toranomon

Designed by architect Kengo Kuma and hotel guru, Ian Schrager, the Tokyo Edition is full of style and spirit. On the upper floors of a skyscraper, the jungle-like lobby, minimalist rooms, and buzzy scene, make this a popular choice.

The Edition Toranomon
  • Hang out with the hip urban crowd at this contemporary design hotel

  • Embrace serenity in the attractive minimalist styled rooms

  • Upgrade your stay by booking a room or suite with a private terrace

  • Just steps from Kamiyacho Station in the upmarket business district, the shops, bars, restaurants, and galleries of Roppongi, along with the shrines and parks of Shibakoen are within easy reach.

Occupying the top floors of the 38-storey Tokyo World Gate skyscraper in the upmarket Toranomon business district, this collaboration between Kengo Kuma and Ian Schrager takes you into a colorful joyous world of urban and urbane delights. Schrager, the man behind Studio 54, knows all about creating a ‘scene,’ and The Edition Tokyo has a real buzz which appeals to a young hip crowd.

The lobby on the 31st floor sets the tone. Full of cascading and abundant greenery, the 500 or so plants create the impression of a floating jungle. By contrast the decadent and exuberant design of the public spaces in not reflected in the room design, which is all pared back minimalist chic. The youthful staff, clad in black uniforms from New York designer Freddie Leiba, provide friendly and relaxed service, even calling many guests by name during their stay.

In total there are 206 rooms and suites, and all offer sweeping views of the city including the Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Bay. White-oak panels, slatted wood partitions, neutral color schemes, low platform beds and gold leaf artworks offer tasteful touches of Japanese elegance and tradition. Trade up to a Premier Room for more space or one of the 15 Studio Terrace and Loft Terrace Rooms for a private roof terrace with potted plants and teak furniture. The 22 suites offer separate living and sleeping areas and have clean-lined freestanding oval Kaldewei bathtubs. For a treat, book the Terrace Suite where you can relax on the expansive terrace overlooking the bustling city below.

The stylish Blue Room, with blue velvet seating, double-height city views, and plenty of greenery, offers all-day dining. The relaxed vibe extends to the menu which offers modern comfort dishes with a hint of Japan (such as miso garlic butter served with bread). The Jade Room and Garden Terrace by Michelin chef Tom Aikens, which will be the hotel’s signature restaurant, will open later in the year.

There is a vibrant bar scene. The Lobby Bar, with its central dazzling white marble bar and illuminated display of green-filled decanters, serves afternoon tea, snacks, and Japanese-inspired cocktails. It is a popular gathering spot in the evenings with a lively atmosphere. Alternatively, you can sink into old school glamour in the sophisticated Gold Bar, serving evening cocktails and drinks in surroundings inspired by the Golden Age of cocktails.

Guests also have access to an indoor pool, spa, and fitness room, open 24/7 and kitted out with the latest gym equipment.
