Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

Insider's View

I went for an early morning walk in the Ayung Valley with a fantastic guide, who both fascinated and educated me on the amazing Balinese flora and fauna.

I had the most spoiling Balinese massage here, it really was incredible and so perfect after a busy day exploring Ubud!

Each afternoon, the local village children attend their dance classes on the property. Guests can watch, and children love to join in.

Duplex Pool Villas work well for families, as they can convert downstairs into a second bedroom for the children.

Try the black rice, mango sorbet and pecan crunch dessert – it’s absolutely delicious!

At dinner make sure you look out over the pool as beyond there is the Golden Bar with music every evening.

Enjoy afternoon tea daily below the pool overlooking the Ayung river valley.

Enjoy an outdoor bath under the stars.

Set in a peaceful area outside Ubud, rich with culture, the luxury Amandari has stunning views over the Ayung River and lush rice paddies beyond. Amandari is believed to be on sacred land and this Balinese retreat certainly feels like a hidden sanctuary.

Amandari has been designed as a traditional Balinese Village and is situated on sacred land that is interwoven with the local community and their peaceful culture. True to local village design, the resort has river-stone walkways between stunning thatched-roofed suites, each one fronted with a Balinese-style gateway that leads to a peaceful and luxurious retreat.

All of Amandari's luxury suites are Balinese in style and are carefully crafted in coconut wood and teak, the roofs layered with alang alang thatching. The interior design and furnishings are classic Aman style, providing an elegant, comfortable, spacious suite with plenty of indoor and outdoor living area in your own private enclave.

Open-air dining in Amandari's teak framed restaurant is an experience in itself - at night the adjacent pool is beautifully lit and you can dine on delicious fresh local, Indonesian or Western food with the gamelan orchestra playing in the nearby music pavilion with the resident frogs for accompaniment.

Ubud is known to be a spiritual and healing place and a visit to Amandari's spa, situated alongside calming lily clad ponds surrounded by lush foliage, confirms this. Body treatments include massages and scrubs using local Balinese ingredients hand picked for their soothing and healing properties. Wellness and beauty treatments can also take place in the comfort of your own suite or in the bale overlooking the Ayung River.

During your time at Amandari ride a mountain bike into Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali to explore the colorful markets and art galleries or explore the local area with invigorating treks including a walk along the Ayung Valley past sacred shrines, rice terraces, mango, coffee and clove trees. Whether you are looking for romance, adventure, culture or peace, Ubud really is one of the few fascinating and beautiful places in the world that has something for everyone.

Amandari is a perfect blend of traditional Balinese style with a touch of Aman luxury. The rooms are spacious and
sleek, as with what you would expect from an Aman resort. And with only 30 villas, you will get the utmost of
privacy. Enjoy the views of the jungle above the Ayung river from the delicious restaurant, large infinity pool, or
from the comfort of your room. None of them disappoint.

Charlotte Winter (Staff)

Amandari is a beautiful property located in Ubud with amazing views down through the valley. The property is only a 15 minute drive away from the center of the town, but there is such a peaceful and serene atmosphere here. There are only 30 villas, all of which are very private and extremely spacious. Each of the rooms has a private garden courtyard, but if you're looking for something particularly luxurious, then opt for one of their stunning private pools. There's plenty to do here at Amandari, with an onsite tennis court, gym, library and beautiful 23 meter swimming pool. The food at the restaurant is also terrific!

Sarah Rowan (Staff)

Beautifully effortless and chic in a way only Aman resorts know how to achieve. All the villas are gloriously private and offer a great feeling of space. The Pool Villas are exquisite and absolutely worth the extra cost if you can find it in you to upgrade from a non-pool villa. With just 30 villas it is amazing how spread out it all feels, without having to walk for miles. They offer a spa, gym, tennis court and beautiful pool area, plus the fantastic opportunity for private guided excursions in the Ubud area. With Aman guides you will see Ubud the best way possible, with knowledgeable and engaging locals, flexible to your needs.

Set high above the sacred Ayung River gorge, Amandari really does have the perfect combination of classic design with a Balinese village feel. Each of the 30 rooms consist of traditional teak and coconut wood, along with alang-alang roofing, emphasising the Balinese influence. There are a number of activities one can get involved in, even for the children, whether it is hitting a ball around the tennis court or white-water rafting down the Ayung River. You can simply relax in the spa, which is located down a beautiful little path. There are many treatments to choose from and you can enjoy the treatment in an open-air bale overlooking the Ayung Valley or in the comfort of your own suite.

Olivia Smith (Staff)

Amandari is one of my favorite properties in Bali, with an incredibly serene, peaceful atmosphere and an utterly mind-blowing setting. Other than the sublimely luxurious accommodation, attentive and unobtrusive service and typical Aman charm, there is so much to do here for adults and children alike. Children can spend their days playing tennis, learning local dances, making traditional kites and even trying their hand at some Indonesian cooking with a cookery class. If you can tear yourself away from relaxing and taking in the stunning valley views from your private pool, I would highly recommend a treatment at the divine spa or taking a misty early morning guided walk into the valley below to work up an appetite for breakfast!
