Shahpura Bagh
  • Shahpura Bagh is owned by the former Maharaja's family who still live on site love nothing more than to sit down with guests and exchange fascinating stories

  • Located half-way between Jaipur and Udaipur, the property is the perfect rural stopover between the big cities of Rajasthan

  • The family also own nearby Dikhola Fort which they use to host sundowners for their guest. Set in a pretty village overlooking the Aravalli hills, the fort can also host private dinners for a truly special experience

  • After exploring the busy cities of Rajasthan, relaxing by the stunning beautiful pool and wandering around the surrounding lakes is the perfect way to unwind

Shahpura Bagh is 120 years old and was once the home of the rulers of Shahpura. It's set midway between Jaipur and Udaipur amid 45-acres of garden and pasture surrounded by lakes making it a very special, peaceful little oasis.

With its idyllic and unspoiled rural setting, it's definitely worth spending a couple of nights here for its restful ambience, which is the perfect antidote if you're on a hectic, city-based itinerary. While here, be sure to head out and explore nearby local villages and get well away from the main tourist routes.

The dining room is housed in the main building and it's here that you'll enjoy your meals during the colder months. At other times, dining is an al fresco affair, usually in the garden in the warm sunshine or romantic glow of candlelight beneath the stars. The cuisine is largely continental and Indian inspired and freshly made using organic ingredients, many of which are sourced from the property's own vegetable garden. You can choose between buffet-style dining or prix fixe. Room service is available and special private dinners can also be arranged.

All rooms have air-conditioning, an overhead fan, and an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. The property has been adapted from a family home so the rooms vary in shape, size and design, which only adds to its overall charm.

Top tip:

Ask Shatrujeet to identify any of the bird life on the Shapura Estate. He really does have an encyclopaedic knowledge and is happy to take guests on walking tours of the area. A joy if you enjoy nature.
