Guatemala is known as, “The land of eternal spring”. Temperatures in the highlands are mild and vary little during the year. Average temperatures are highs of 77F and lows of 55F. May to October is the rainy season but this doesn’t affect all areas and more often means sunny mornings with showers beginning around 4pm. June is the month with the higher average pluvial precipitation peaks. July and August typically offer a week of dry weather known as the “Indian summer”, which can be an ideal time to travel. November to February is the dry-cold season when there is little to no rain but temperatures can be cool, especially in the early morning and evening. These months have the lower peaks of temperature in January, and low average ranges in pluvial precipitation. March to April is the dry-warm season when the weather is hot and dry. The higher temperature peaks are in April and also the lower precipitation averages.
The height of the foreign tourist season is from Christmas to Easter. Things become acute around Christmas, New Year’s and Easter, when Guatemalans take vacations too – we recommend booking many months in advance. Another high season runs June to August.
To start planning your vacation to Posada del Angel
Posada del Angel is a small, charming and intimate boutique mansion located on a quiet street in the center of colonial Antigua in Guatemala. The hotel's privacy and romantic atmosphere make it a perfect choice for couples and honeymooners.
Posada del Angel provides a quiet oasis of tranquility, right in the heart of Antigua, one of the most beautiful colonial towns in Guatemala, and indeed in the Americas. There are seven guest rooms and suites with plenty of character, each individually decorated to perfectly reflect Guatemalan style with antique artifacts and wood burning fireplaces. All of the suites surround a tranquil garden and lap pool, laden with ferns and bougainvillea. The library and breakfast lounge are particularly inviting but all public areas tend to give a warm and cosy atmosphere.
Antigua is a treasure trove of craft shops, museums, jade jewelry boutiques, colonial architecture, and folk art galleries which give great insight into the intriguing Guatemalan culture, as well as showcasing its fascinating Mayan history. A couple of days here is plenty to explore the maze of cobbled streets and pretty plazas but if you're looking for something a little more active, then a climb up one of the local active volcanoes offers a truly unforgettable experience.
All suites are decorated with hand-woven Guatemalan fabrics and each of the seven has its own personality, with unique decoration and antiques dotted about. Many feature wood-burning fireplaces and some rooms have the option to split king size beds into twin beds. The Mary Sue Suite has its own private patio, as well as a spacious living area.
Children are welcome to stay at Posada del Angel and babysitting can be arranged upon request, but there are no specific facilities or interconnecting rooms.
Posada del Angel has an inviting lap pool, a dining room where a delicious home made breakfast is served, a living room to relax or chat with friends and a lovely terrace with wonderful views of the city.
Antigua is a highlight of any trip to Guatemala, with its cobblestone streets lined with charming, brightly colored buildings, well preserved churches and convents and colorful local handicrafts. Excursions can also be arranged out of the city to some of the bustling local markets such as Chichicastenango and Sololá and to hike the Pacaya volcano.

A gorgeous traditional converted mansion near the heart of Antigua - which comes with all the trappings assigned to this. Some rooms can be a touch small, and some may seem a little dark - as is the way with these colonial houses build around a central atrium for their light. However it also creates an beautifully intimate hideaway from the bustle of Antigua, and all the romanticism that comes with these traditional buildings and beautiful colonial styling, and at night with the entire property illuminated by candelight - there is no where else I'd rather escape from the (other!) tourists in Antigua to. The service throughout is second to none - Anibal could not do enough for his guests to ensure their time in the city is a magical one.

Feel wonderfully at home at the beautiful and romantic Posada del Angel; as you walk into the little courtyard you'll be blown away by the beauty of the deep red washed painted walls against the striking cobalt blue color of the lap pool. This hotel is real favorite of mine. The service is second to none, the decor is traditional Guatemalan and it really is an oasis of tranquility located in the heart of the buzzing town of Antigua. With only 7 suites at Posada del Angel, this boutique hotel always feels particularly exclusive, I would say it is a fantastic option for honeymooners looking for privacy and pure beauty when it comes to decor but less suited to families due to the romantic atmoshere.

Posada del Angel is a real find. Tucked away behind high walls, you enter a different world that is beguiling. Lovely antique furniture, quiet pools and fountains, and a genuinely warm and friendly welcome, not to mention one of the best rooftop views over Antigua, make this a wonderfully romantic retreat. In fact the Clintons stayed here when they visited Guatemala, and you'll be able to see why when you come.
