Good time to visit
Average time to visit

Egypt enjoys a mild climate, making it a good year round destination. However, temperatures increase as you travel due south. Cairo can be chilly between December and February, and very hot between June and September. But the heat in Egypt is made bearable by the northerly breeze that leads to a drop in temperature at night. Peak temperatures in Upper Egypt occur between May and October, and are accompanied by extremely low humidity. The best time to visit Cairo is in the cooler months between November and March

Cairo has long-standing populations of major religious groups and past colonial powers, so it’s possible to find celebrations for most every major vacation. Islam, however, is the prevailing force here, and the month of Ramadan is one of the most pronounced Islamic vacations. It happens in July or August, and during this time, some shops and restaurants may stay closed during the daytime fast.

Itinerary

Fly to Cairo
Day 1-4

Cairo, Egypt

Begin your journey in Cairo, Egypt’s vibrant capital where millennia-old architectural monuments contrast against modern skyscrapers on the banks of the River Nile. Accompanied by an expert guide, explore the Egyptian Museum which is home to a staggering collection of 120,000 exhibits. Wander through charming Islamic Cairo, navigating from the Citadel of Salah-el-Din, Mohamed Ali Mosque, Sultan Hassan Mosque to an astounding city view from Ibn Tulun Mosque's minaret.
The next day, dive into the rich history of ancient Egypt as you explore the Pyramids of Giza, now the last standing of the Seven Wonders of the World. Continue to the colossal Great Sphinx, carved from a single piece of limestone to form what is still among one of the world’s largest sculptures. Explore the ancient burial grounds at Sakkara, a sprawling necropolis home to the remains of pyramids, temples, and tombs that span the history of ancient Egypt.

Accommodation: Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah ( 3 nights )
Fly to Luxor
Day 4-7

Luxor, Egypt

Fly from Cairo to Luxor, formerly part of the ancient city of Thebes set on the banks of the Nile. Spend some time admiring the treasures on display at the Luxor Museum, which houses an incredible collection of antiquities and Pharaonic artifacts.
The next day explore the East Bank of Luxor, often referred to as the world’s largest open-air museum. Uncover the vast Karnak Temple complex, stroll along the Avenue of the Sphinxes past imposing statues and towering obelisks, ending at the impressive riverside Luxor Temple which formed the most important religious center in ancient Egypt.
The following day uncover Luxor’s West Bank – home to the magnificent Valley of the Kings. Explore this hugely important burial site for ancient pharaohs, where archaeologist Howard Carter first discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb. Continue to the corresponding Valley of the Queens, where the tomb of Nefertari, the first wife of Ramses II, can be found. Explore the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut and be amazed by the monumental Colossi of Memnon statues.

Accommodation: Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa ( 3 nights )
Day 7-9

Elephantine Island, Aswan

This morning you will be driven from Luxor to Aswan, where the rolling dunes of the Sahara meet the powerful River Nile in the southern frontier of ancient Egypt. Along the way, marvel at the incredibly well-preserved sandstone walls of the Temple of Horus in Edfu, conserved thanks to the fact that the temple was buried beneath desert sand until the 19th century.  Continue to the majestic Temple of Kom Ombo and gaze in awe at the towering colonnades rising dramatically along the banks of the Nile.
The next day discover the delights of Aswan, visiting the famed Aswan High Dam opened in 1970 to control the annual Nile flood, thus providing protection to some of Egypt’s most important Pharaonic monuments. Explore the Temple of Philae, which was painstakingly transferred piece by piece from Philae Island to Agilkia Island in the 1960s while the dam was being constructed. Dedicated to the goddess Isis, wander through this superb temple complex which was an important sacred site to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Gain a fascinating insight into ancient Egyptian engineering techniques as you visit the Unfinished Obelisk, which as the name suggests remains in an incomplete state of construction in an ancient quarry.

Accommodation: Movenpick Aswan ( 2 nights )
Fly to Cairo
Day 9-10

Cairo, Egypt

This morning, you have the option to visit the incredible site of Abu Simbel on the shores of Lake Nasser, home to two temples built by the renowned Egyptian king Ramses II. Afterwards fly back to Cairo to enjoy one final evening in Egypt’s vibrant capital city. Explore the labyrinth-like souks of Khan-el-Khalili bazaar, brimming with fabrics, spices and antiques.

Accommodation: Le Meridien Cairo Airport ( 1 night )
