Insider's View

Galapagos still stands out as the most exciting destination I have ever been to. Why? Tons of wildlife both above and below water, year round sunny conditions, delicious food, the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world….just to name a few reasons

We design each itinerary around you, so this suggested itinerary is a starting point that we can tweak or transform into something completely bespoke to you. To start planning your vacation

Let us take you on a journey through Ecuador and the Galapagos. Wonder through the mist-shrouded cloud forest of Mashpi. Hike through the limitless landscapes surrounding the city of Otavalo. Follow in Darwin’s footsteps as you explore the Galapagos Islands and observe endemic wildlife. Immerse yourself in the fascinating culture of Ecuador’s capital city, Quito. This itinerary is action-packed with natural wonders, interspersed with doses of tranquillity along the way.

  1. Fly to Quito

  2. Days 1-3: Quito

Your journey begins in the colonial capital of Quito. You will be met at the airport and transferred to La Casona de la Ronda, located on a cobbled street in the bohemian La Ronda neighborhood. Spend today enjoying the serenity of your hotel after your long-haul flight and relish on the delights of Ecuadorian cuisine. The following day absorb the beauty of Quito and its mountain backdrop as you take a privately guided tour through this captivating city and explore the colonial quarter, the largest and best preserved of South America and also one of the first UNESCO World Heritage sites. You will have the chance to visit the ‘middle of the world’, a site which marks the equator at its closest point to the city.

Accommodation: La Casona de la Ronda (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-5: Quito

Escape the city to the remote and biodiverse cloud forest of Mashpi, where a lodge sits encased by nature, surrounded by exotic birds and enough flora and fauna to blanket over more than 3000 acres. Designated as one of the most Unique Lodges of the World by National Geographic, Mashpi Lodge is a magical place for couples to explore nature at its most pure. Meander through the forest led by highly trained naturalist guides, observing animals such as the capuchin monkeys and vibrantly colored hummingbirds, listening to the sounds of birdcalls in the distance. Plunge into tranquillity in small waterfalls and hop on to “The Dragonfly”, an exhilarating, open-air cable car system that carries you over and directly through the forest canopy, offering you a totally unique perspective of the reserve from overhead. Spend your evenings relishing on exquisite cuisine in Mashpi’s glass dining room, with views of the ever-green forest surrounding you.

    Accommodation: Mashpi Lodge (2 nights)

  4. Days 5-7: Central Highlands

Now for a change of scenery as you head through rural countryside, arriving in the city of Otavalo, famous for its textiles, artisanal crafts and leather goods. Outside of the city, you will check into the charming residence of Hacienda Zuleta, nestled in the Avenue of Volcanoes. You will be blessed with staggeringly beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. For the next two days you can really be at one with nature as you canter through magnificent landscapes on horseback, discover aromatic woodlands and winding mountain trails on foot, and let the world open up before you as you cycle into limitless landscapes. If you fancy some time to unwind, enjoy an embroidery class led by an expert or tantalize your taste buds as you learn to cook Andean specialties with handpicked produce from the local farm. Evenings will be spent lazing around a crackling bonfire, listening to traditional Andean music and devouring toasted marshmallows, under the star-flecked night sky.

    Accommodation: Hacienda Zuleta (2 nights)

  5. Days 7-11: Galapagos

The Galapagos awaits you. Today you will say farewell and be transferred to Quito where you will board your flight to the Galapagos. Feel your excitement build as you descend down onto this magnificent archipelago. Your feet won’t be on land for long as you will be whisked to the port to board your boutique catamaran. For the next 4 days you can fully immerse yourself in the wild and get up close to the most iconic animals in the Galapagos, enjoying a combination of land and water activities. Snorkel with curious sea lion pups as you watch them playfully tumbling through the water. Paddle around the marine reserve on a kayak and observe a flock of blue-footed boobies. Plunge into the waters and scuba dive amongst a squadron of manta rays. Discover Santa Cruz’s pit crater and hike through the lava tubes. Trek the islands of Espanola, Santa Fé, Floreana, North Seymour and Santa Cruz, unravelling the endemic wildlife treasures home to each island. You will really get under the skin of the Galapagos Islands and no day will be the same.

Accommodation: Galapagos Seaman Journey (4 nights)

  6. Days 11-12: Quito

Your last day and night will be spent back in Quito, where you can soak up more of this city and its delights. In the evening, why not enjoy a farewell meal in a traditional restaurant, looking back on your epic adventure.

Accommodation: La Casona de la Ronda (1 night)

  7. Fly home from Quito

Enjoy a restful morning, relishing on a hearty breakfast before being transferred to Guayaquil airport in time for your flight home.
