Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Aspen has an extreme continental climate with very cold winters and warm summers. Activities are very seasonal. Spring, from late April to June, is marked by mild days and cold nights, with some rain and occasional snow. Summer offers warm days and cool nights and a profusion of brightly colored wildflowers. Expect blue sky days with occasional short afternoon showers. Outdoor adventure and an abundance of art, culture and music events, many of which are free, attract visitors to Aspen in the summer. The first big event of the year being the Food and Wine Classic scheduled towards end of June, with events running through September.

In autumn, the aspen and cottonwood run gold and red displaying a spectacular fall show. The days are sunny, with cold nights. Rain eventually gives way to snow. Winter brings with it enough deep snow to keep a skier happy well into April.

Aspen is an incomparable summer destination with outdoor adventures, a passion for visual arts, music, and the written word, and some of the finest hotels and restaurants in the world. The sun shines in this part of the Colorado Rockies more than 300 days per year, making Aspen an ideal training environment for world-class athletes and those who just want to get lost in the mountains.

The summer slopes offer adventures from down-hill mountain biking; hiking Aspen's classic Hunter Creek trails or the iconic Maroon Bells Peaks; adrenaline-inducing river rafting and kayaking; family-friendly cycling along a myriad of trails; premier fly-fishing or hot-air ballooning high in the sky.

Wednesday night Rodeo at Snowmass Village is not to be missed - whoop and cheer to the games and chow down on hot dogs and candy floss. There are plentiful horse-back riding operators and ranches for those that want to saddle up and live the cowboy dream.

For culture vultures, the Aspen Art Museum, designed by award-winning Japanese Architect Shingeru Ban, has just opened with three stories of gallery space, a theater, cafe and roof-top sculpture garden. Art enthusiasts visit the Anderson Arts Center where leading artists come each summer to get creative - enquire about lectures and courses open to the public. Enjoy Beethovan or Brahms at the Benedict Music Tent or Thursday night free music at Fanny Hill with top musicians and it's fun festival vibe.

Sister property to the Little Nell, this is more of a low key cousin, almost the polar opposite to the Little Nell.  Relaxed and low key, the Limelight is affordable and fun.  From the informal lounge where buffet breakfast is included each day through to the live music at the weekend, the hotel is the essence of relaxed Aspen.  I have to say that the resounding attraction of the Limelight is the price. In a town full of expensive hotels, this is great value and makes being right in town affordable.  For this you have to forgive it some of it's slightly more motel-like qualities (ice machines in the corridors, slightly dated interior and carpets, lack of sophistication).  The huge benefits are the experiences, the affiliation with the Little Nell means that the Limelight can offer the same Concierge options, and also the location, right in town.  The pool and pool deck are also great in the summer making this a solid base for a short stay in Aspen, without breaking the bank.

The Limelight Hotel in the heart of Aspen town offers excellent value for families or couples who are perhaps on a tighter budget, or looking to hold back keep something in the pot for some unforgettable experiences or activities.

The rooms have recently been refurbished, now with a calm and stylish, nature inspired green and grey color scheme. There are several interconnecting room options, which is of importance to families visiting Aspen.

Guests benefit from breakfast included in the room rate, as well as many scheduled activities organized by the hotel. The Limelight also hosts excellent dinners just such as Pizza Nights and Beer Pairing Dinners!

  • Western Wednesday at Snowmass Village

Grab your cowboy hat and enjoy a wild, adrenaline rush with a day at the rodeo. The Wednesday night Rodeo at Snowmass Village is enormous fun and a great way to meet the locals. Don't miss the delicious cowboy bbq dinner & saloon bar.
