Highlights
An incredible setting, The Floathouse is located actually on the River Kwai
There is no need for a swimming pool - guests can just jump from their villa into the river!
Only 200 meters from the Lawa Cave, famous for its wonderful stalactites and stalagmites as well as being home to the world's smallest bat species
A great option for exploring both the history and nature of Kanchanaburi
Given its rather extraordinary location, the FloatHouse River Kwai is usually accessed by boat. This means the adventure begins before you even reach the hotel, and the rest of your stay is sure to follow suit. The hotel is in a fixed location, floating on the famous River Kwai. However despite being over-water, guests need not worry - the hotel is very sturdy!
There are 30 floating villas, each made from teakwood with thatched roofs. Every villa has air-conditioning and a private deck facing the river. The decks have deckchairs and a bench swing, and so offer a lovely place to relax watching the river go by.
It is possible to jump into the river from your deck and float down to the end of the jetty before climbing back up (life jackets are recommended for this). The open areas and running water does mean this is only suitable for couple or families with older children.
There is a main restaurant which serves an international buffet for breakfast and lunch, and a la carte or set menu options for dinner. The food comforting and homely, and the atmosphere is relaxed.
