Average time to visit

From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4000mm a year. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C. The sea stays at around 27°C all year. Climatically speaking, the driest (and best) seasons in Sri Lanka are from December to March for the west and south coasts.

  1. Days 1-2: Colombo

    You’ll start your trip in the vibrant city of Colombo where you’ll have one night to explore. As a rapidly developing city, there is constantly something new being built and plenty to discover. Colombo also offers the only international airport in Sri Lanka so will naturally be your entry and exit point.

    Accommodation: Uga Residence (1 night)

  2. Days 2-4: Sigiriya

    From here you will make your way over to the rock fortress at Sigiriya, staying in the surrounding area for two nights. From here you’ll have access to the wider ancient cities and we have included visits for you to Polonnaruwa and the incredible Dambulla Cave Temples with their beautifully preserved Buddha's.

    Accommodation: Water Garden Sigiriya (2 nights)

  3. Days 4-6: Kandy

    Then it is on to Kandy, which you will reach through scenic spice country. In Kandy, with your private guide, see the Temple of the Tooth, Botanical Gardens as well as local food markets full of vibrant color and characters.

    Accommodation: The Kandy House (2 nights)

  4. Days 6-8: Hatton

    From Kandy, venture further into the Hill Country to spend a couple of days surrounded by the beauty of the tea plantations. Your accommodation is based on an all-inclusive basis, with daily experiences included such as explorations of local tea factories and hikes through incredible lush countryside.

  5. Days 8-10: Yala National Park

    Moving further south, your next stop will be Yala National Park where you will be spending your following two nights. Yala is known as Sri Lanka’s best area for wildlife spotting with brilliant diversity and high density of animals, makings sightings of elephants, water buffalo, birdlife and even leopard common occurrences. Included in the itinerary are four separate safaris, so that you can make the most of your time here.

  6. Days 10-12: Tangalle

    Then is it on to Tangalle offering beautiful palm fringed beaches and tropical surf. With two nights here, you can choose to completely relax or get involved in a whole host of watersports and if visiting during from November to April, you can even whale watch from here.

  7. Days 12-13: Galle

    Finally, your last stop on the adventure will be one night in Galle, which you will reach after a beautiful drive along the coast. The citadel of Galle, having undergone much restoration is an exciting place to be. Oozing charm, Galle is full of old merchant’s houses and mansions rubbing shoulders with beautiful mosques and churches and plenty of little boutiques to find exquisite fabrics, jewelry and hand crafts. Enjoy wandering the cobbled streets picking up a few local mementoes and soaking up the atmosphere, a perfect end to your journey through this fascinating country.

  • Anuradhapura Ancient City

    Anuradhapura dates from the sixth century BC and is one of Buddhism's holiest sites, containing the 2,200 year old Sri Maha Bodhi tree, grown from a cutting of the Indian tree beneath which Buddha found Enlightenment.

  • Colombo - Mark Forbes Walk

    Enjoy a guided tour of Colombo's hidden corners. Mark Forbes or one of his team will take you on a tour of the city's historic buildings before visiting the Pettah Market. This tour lasts around two to three hours.

  • Colombo Night by Bike

    Cycle through the charming city of Colombo at dusk, as you visit some of its most iconic landmarks.

  • Colonial Colombo by Vintage Car

    Colonial Colombo by Vintage Car is a fabulous way to explore this evolving city as the sun sets. Cruise around in your chauffeur driven vintage car and retrace Colombo's colonial past.

  • Dambulla Buddhist Caves

    Dambulla is an ancient historical site set on a large granite outcrop. The caves at Dambulla are famous for their temples and have been repainted several times in the 11th, 12th and 18th centuries with secular and Buddhist scenes.

  • Early Morning Visit to Kudawella Fishing Harbour

    Get up early (leave around 7am) to go to Kudawella Fishing Harbour. Take a walk around the small harbor packed full of fishermen selling their catch.

  • Explore the Kapu Ela River by boat & Cycle through Rural Galle

    Enjoy a scenic and immersive tour through the beautiful countryside surrounding Galle. Your journey will take you down the Kapu Ela River by boat and then by bike across the paddies, ending with a traditional Sri Lankan meal and a lesson in hopper making.

  • Galle Cooking Experience - Food for the Soul

    Visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa and the monkeys that occupy the area. These impressive ruins have been carefully preserved and have attracted groups of three diurnal primates. Get up close with these cheeky animals and learn about their behaviour.

  • Polonnaruwa Ancient City

    The ancient city of Polonnaruwa dates from the 10th century AD. Originally planned as an expression and statement of imperial power, the city was eventually abandoned in 1288. Many of the remains are still in excellent condition.

  • Shared Afternoon Safari - Yala National Park

    Enjoy a evening safari in Yala National Park. Yala is a must for anyone wanting to spot the elusive leopard, and with over 250sqkm / 96sqm of land to explore, you will likely have some luck in spotting not only leopard, but sloth bear and elephants.

  • Sigiriya Rock

    The Sigiriya rock rises majestically from the jungle floor. It is famous for its ‘mirror wall’, so called because of its highly polished surface. Half-way up there are galleries with frescoes in brilliant tempera. Sigirya dates from the 5th century AD.

  • Trek the Knuckles Mountain Range

    Explore the Knuckles Mountain Range on this full day trek. A local tracker will guide you through the Knuckles Forest Reserve, hiking the Corbett’s Gap Viewpoint track.
