The Kalahari
The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is set on the edge of the mighty Kalahari Desert and extends into Botswana, forming a massive wildlife refuge. The park follows two seasonal rivers, the Auob and the Nossob, and is famous for its lions, as well as being home to many other species. The birdlife is equally interesting, with over 200 species recorded.
With the shelter of the Korannaberg mountains in the southern Kalahari, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park contains a range of environments, from the iconic red sands to the open savannah. This allows for a unique and diverse wildlife, and the park gives visitors the chance to see the rarest of animals, such as pangolin and aardvark. Black-maned lion roam the area, it is possible to spot the endangered black rhino, and this is one of the best places to see the excitable meerkat. Springbok are prevalent here, as well as the gemsbok antelope, after which the park is named. Created in the 1930s to protect the wildlife from poachers, the Kalahari Trna has maintained its wide array of animals, and today offers an exceptional safari experience.
