Days 1-3: Muscat
Your family adventure begins when you touch down at Muscat and are greeted by your waiting driver who will whisk you away to your luxurious hotel. There are some great properties in Muscat, but we suggest the wonderful Shangri-La, a fabulous family option which offers interconnecting family rooms, an excellent kids’ club and a long sandy beach. We have included for you a guided city tour, taking in highlights such as the souk, the Sultan Qaboos Mosque and the fresh food markets.
Accommodation: Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sultanate of Oman (2 nights)
-
Days 3-4: Wahiba Sands
After two nights in Muscat, your journey takes you down the coast, stopping the picturesque town of Sur, The Bimmah Sink Hole and the traditional Dhow boat yards. Arrive at Ras Al Jinz Turtle Conservation camp where you have a luxury tent for a night learning about the Omani efforts to protect native turtles. Enjoy the magical experience of seeing turtles nesting and hatching with your professional guide. Please note: this experience is subject to seasonality- please talk to your travel consultant for more information.
Accommodation: Ras al Jinz Turtle Reserve (1 night)
-
Days 4-5: Wahiba Sands
From the coast, you drive inland, heading deep into the desert to the everchanging dunes of Wahiba Sands. Spend a night under the stars, counting constellations in the clear sky, dune bashing in a 4x4 and enjoying tea and dates with a Bedouin family in their tent. You may also want to ride a camel into the dunes at sunset for the ultimate desert experience!
Accommodation: Desert Nights Camp (1 night)
-
Days 5-7: Nizwa
After a night in the desert, trade sandy dunes for mountainous crags in the Hajar Mountains. Nizwa is the old capital of Oman and is crammed with fascinating history and culture, and beautiful traditional architecture. You may enjoy a gentle walk through the hills, relaxing and taking in the views from your hotel, and we have also arranged for a day tour of the city, Jabrin Castle and the UNESCO protected Bahla Fort.
Accommodation: Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort (2 nights)
-
Days 7-9: Muscat
As your vacation draws to a close, you can sit back and relax for a fascinating drive back along the mountain roads, taking in villages and wadis on your way back to Muscat. Here you have two final nights to unwind, relax and reflect on your trip. Perhaps pick up some final souvenirs at the souk, and make some precious memories with a boat trip out onto the Gulf of Oman where you can spot dolphins and whales cresting in the blue water.
