Shikoku broadly follows Japan’s climatic pattern with August being the hottest month and mid-winter cooling things right down in January, although the island is known for having milder weather year-round. Rainfall can be higher on Shikoku than other areas of the country. The spring months of March to May are good for hiking, as is the autumn, particularly October. These are the classic pilgrimage times and seasonal colors are at their best with cherry blossom in the spring and golden hues in the autumn.

Located in the hamlet of Ochiai in East Iya Valley at the edge of the winding land in the deep mountain, Tougenkyo-Iya offers an authentic rural Japan farmhouse experience with stunning views.
A 300-year-old thatched farmhouse in the lesser explored east Iya region. There is a total of eight farmhouses in random style. Each farmhouse has its own unique room layout and structure. Though the thatched-roof exterior preserves an antique look, the interior is equipped with the most advanced features including bathroom, air conditioning, linen towels, floor heating and many more.
The farmhouse also provides cooking utensils, induction heating, and basic condiments to allow the guests to cook for themselves with their own ingredients. There will also be an opportunity to invite the local villagers to your place to dish up some local dishes with the fresh local ingredients for you or get the food delivered to your doorstep from the nearby restaurant at an additional cost. With the impressive view of mountains of Iya, you can also rent a barbeque set to enjoy some barbecuing in the garden of the farmhouse.
