Average time to visit
Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore the rest of this Indian land of mystery.

Talayar Bungalow is an old tea planter bungalow, converted into a delightful boutique hotel. The property is situated 18km outside Munnar in the midst of tea plantations, with beautiful views of the mountains on all sides.
Talayar Tea Bungalow, also known as green bungalow by locals is situated just beyond eravikulam national park. The journey from Munnar takes you along a valley with a winding road leading into the Talayar Village, up to the top of the hill is where the bungalow is situated. Beautiful gardens surround the bungalow as do the mountains giving you a fantastic panoramic view.
There are 4 rooms in the bungalow, all named after a color motif such as Rose or Blue and all are made up of impressive proportions. Remembering that these 4 rooms were a home to the original plantation owner gives the place a really homely feel. The Bungalow is also made up of the original great room, lounge dining room, cigar room and outside terrace.
Talayar is all about the Tea experience while the staff will do everything in their power to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Whilst you are there you will have the opportunity to trek in the local area, through the tea plantations or up into the mountains. Another experience Tayalar Bunglaow is well known for is the 'Tea Manufacturing Workshop'. This includes meeting the tea pickers, plucking your own tea, and then taking it through the entire cultivation process. At the end you can even take your tea home with you. Many people who stay at the bungalow say this was their favorite part of the experience.
There are four rooms; The Royal Talayar Suite is the largest, Magnolia Suite, Rose Suite and the Blue Jay Suite. The Blue Jay Suite is the only one with it's very own Terrace area.
Talayar Bungalow consists of 4 bedrooms, a dining area, cigar lounge, dining room, and outside terrace area. It sits in a large garden with fire pit and BBQ which can be enjoyed in the evenings.
There are plenty of activities available at the Bungalow, all depending on how active you are feeling. If you are keen then get involved in the local sight-seeing; head to the Tea museum, Mattupetty dam, Top station, Rajamala Lakkom waterfalls and Briar wooden bridge. Talaylar Bungalows offer many trekking activities, both short distance and long distance. In the evenings you can enjoy a BBQ and sit around the fire pit enjoying a drink.

This beautiful bungalow has the unique quality of being perched on a hill in the middle of a tea plantation. Not only do you get fantastic views below you but the mountains range up around you as well. It's a wonderfully intimate property and a great place to go to relax and learn how to manufacture tea! We did the 'make a cup of tea experience' which was fantastic, and not something I have seen offered anywhere else.
