Le Marais combines some of Paris's oldest streets with one of its more unique cultural scenes. Medieval lanes weave between galleries, fashion boutiques, cafés and museums, while grand 17th-century mansions sit alongside buildings that predate the French Revolution.

At its heart, Place des Vosges remains one of the city's most elegant squares, while avenues such as the Avenue des Filles du Calvaire are lined with everything from renowned concept stores like Merci to vintage boutiques. The area is also home to the Picasso Museum, Musée Carnavalet and Center Pompidou art and history museums that are less crowded alternatives to Paris’s city-center institutions.

A favorite of Paris’s great writers and artists, Saint-Germain-des-Prés’s independent, literary heritage can still be felt today. Here historic cafés, independent bookshops, pâtisseries and family-run businesses sit alongside some of Paris's most respected restaurants and galleries.

Perched on the Left Bank, the district is nearby to sites including the Musée d'Orsay, Luxembourg Gardens and the city's oldest church, Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés. From browsing fashionable boutiques tucked into ivy-covered buildings to lingering over coffee at Café de Flore or dining at renowned restaurants such as Guy Savoy, Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a welcome contrast to more crowded areas in Paris.

The 1st and 8th arrondissements are home to many of Paris's most recognizable landmarks, luxury hotels and shopping streets. The 1st arrondissement forms part of the city's historic heart, where the Louvre, Tuileries Garden, Palais Royal and Sainte-Chapelle are all within reasonable walking distance of one another.

To the west, in the 8th arrondissement you can walk grand avenues home to some of the capital's most prestigious addresses. A shopper’s dream, here you'll find the Champs-Élysées along with Place de la Concorde, the Arc de Triomphe and flagship boutiques from many of the world's leading fashion houses.

Above the city, Montmartre feels a lot like an independent village in its own right with a legacy as an artistic haven and its distinctive, sweeping views across Paris. The district attracted generations of painters including Picasso, Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec, who found inspiration here.

Today, most visitors come for the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, portrait artists gathered around Place du Tertre and the neighborhood's lively cafés and music venues which includes the famed Moulin Rouge. But there are hidden treasures too, like the unique Clos Montmartre, which is one of the only remaining vineyards within the city of Paris.

It doesn’t get more classically Paris than this. The Eiffel Tower quarter combines some of Paris's most visited attractions with quieter residential streets and local cafés. Of course, no Paris trip is complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower, and perhaps dinner at the Michelin-starred Le Jules Verne in the structure itself, but there is still much more to discover in the surrounding neighborhood.

For art and history lovers, explore the Musée Rodin and its sculpture-filled rose gardens or visit Les Invalides military complex to see Napoleon’s tomb. A short walk away, streets such as Rue Saint-Dominique offer a more local perspective on everyday life with residential parks that are welcome reprieve for families with little ones.
