Description
With a superb location at the base of the Aiguille du Midi cable car, at the foot of Mont Blanc, the Hotel Heliopic is a great choice for a ski vacation in the world famous resort of Chamonix. Great facilities include a Spa by Nuxe and indoor pool.
With a convenient setting in the heart of Chamonix, at an altitude of 1,035m and the foot of Aiguille du Midi cable car the four star Hotel Heliopic is welcoming in its approach and has a creative 'retro-mountain-chic' design. Formed of 2 interconnecting chalets, there are 102 rooms, a spectacular 500m2 spa, restaurant, bar, ski shop and grocery shop.
The hotel is designed to make guests feel at home as soon as they set foot in the lobby with the area being a very social place with lots of different alcoves to relax and enjoy a drink in. There is even a dedicated children's' area with giant beanbags, complimentary sweets and popcorn dispensers and an 'all you can drink' smoothie bar to enjoy whilst kicking back and playing games or watching a movie. The lobby also has a self service library with mountain-related books, board games and DVDs and a music room.
The hotel's signature restaurant serves locally inspired dishes and a daily buffet breakfast, whilst the Epicerie du Midi is a mini grocery store with a retro 50s American diner feel, where guests can enjoy homemade dishes based on traditional recipes which can either be eaten in or enjoyed as a take away.
The Nuxe spa offers a haven of relaxation to return to after a day skiing with a 15m x 6m indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and three treatment rooms offering a range of treatments and massages.
The hotel also has a ski rental shop with equipment from the leading brands for all levels, clothing and accessories. Equipment hire can be booked in advance.
When it comes to skiing in Chamonix, it has a reputation that precedes it as one of the oldest and most famous ski resorts in the world; having played host to the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924. There is a vast array of skiing available as well as the famous 20 km long Vallée Blanche - a rite of passage for skiers looking to tick off one of the most legendary runs in the world. The ski area covers five different mountains and reaches the village of Argentière which is the access point for Les Grand Montets. With a few beginner areas this terrain is more suited to intermediate and advanced skiiers.
Accommodation
All the 102 spacious rooms at the Heliopic provide cosy comfort and have a balcony with a view of the mountains. Room facilities include TV, DVD player, Wi-Fi, storage and bookcase, tea and coffee making facilities and a bathroom with bath and toilet. Rooms have oak parquet flooring and herringbone tweed fabric from the Arpin spinning mill.
Baby cot and laundry service is available on request.
Superior Room | The superior rooms are approximately 25m² and can be configured as either a double or twin. They have a separate bathroom with bath and overhead shower. There is also a pull out sofa bed suitable for one person and room for a cot. |
Family Room | At approximately 35m², these family rooms have a double or twin bed along with a bunk bed and one shared bathroom, sleeping a maximum of four people. |
Childcare
Whilst there are no specific childcare services at this hotel, there lots of great facilities especially for children with added extras. The kids' entertainment room contains giant beanbags, cinema, games, a smoothie bar and sweets and popcorn dispensers, all complimentary.
Facilities
Guests have a spectacular, large spa to treat themselves with at the Heliopic. This 500m² stone and wood clad area is dedicated to zen and vitality. Amid lava rock decor, guests are offered total relaxation with a hanging 'Egg' chair by Pierantonio Bonacina, a teashop, hammam, Japanese whirlpool bath, tepidarium (warm relaxation area), sauna, ice bath and an ice cave with a crushed ice fountain. A host of treatments are available to book with the spa professionals.
The Heliopic restaurant is for great for fine dining with twists on traditional local dishes, whilst the Epicerie du Midi has snack food, a grocery shop and coffee available to eat in or take away.

Activities
With the Aiguille du Midi cable car close by and the ski shop located in the hotel, guests are easily set up to reach a multitude of ski slopes that Chamonix and its neighboring villages offer. Other activities guests might want to try include snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, ice climbing, dog sledding, ice skating and toboggan runs.
For non-skiers or those who want to take a break from skiing, guests can take a trip on the Montenvers railway to Mer de Glace where you can visit the glacier itself as well as museums, ice caves, the Temple of Nature and the Glaciorium. Alternatively, there is also a visit to the famous Saint Bernard breeding kennels.
