As a base from which to visit the epic sand dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses, Atins’ sandy streets and languid charm takes some beating, its beautiful beaches and dune vegetation making it a picturesque destination in its own right. Of course, the true magic happens in the national park, where 40-meter dunes stretch for tens of miles, their white sands dotted with mirage-like turquoise lagoons.
A perfectly constant breeze provides ideal conditions for kite surfing across this impressive landscape, or explore the dunes on horseback, by 4x4 or on foot, discovering the rich eco-system of the lagoons and the overwhelming expanse of the dunes.
