Vumbura Plains is a luxury camp situated in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the far north of the Okavango Delta. The lodge has two 14-bedded camps (north and south) linked by raised boardwalks.
The Vumbura Reserve offers a range of land, water and air activities in a park that has a variety of habitats and a great diversity of wildlife. The reserve offers an enormous traversing area of close on 130 000 acres.
Vumbura Plains Camp comprises two separate seven-roomed satellite camps, each with its own raised dining, lounge and bar area tucked beneath a canopy of cool, shady, indigenous trees. Magnificent vistas across the Okavango Delta floodplains are a feature. A star-gazing deck with comfortable cushions protrudes into the floodplain, a place to gaze upwards, or a convivial camp fire setting.
The main activity at Vumbura Plains is game viewing in wonderful and varied countryside. Birding around Vumbura Plains Camp is incredible - with both variety and prolific numbers. The Vumbura area is possibly the only area in the Okavango Delta where one can see red lechwe (an animal that inhabits the fringes of the waterways) and sable antelope (an animal that prefers the dry countryside) on the same game drive. Walks, mokoros, boating and hot air balloon safaris (available April to September at an extra cost) give Vumbura’s guests the opportunity to enjoy Africa from a different perspective.
All of the luxury rooms are raised off the ground on wooden platforms with walkways connecting them to the main living areas. Each room has a large, very comfortable bedroom, a lounge, a "sala" and en-suite facilities with a shower, a flush toilet and an outdoor shower under the stars. Each room also has its own plunge pool.
Vumbura Plains camp has 14 room in each of North and South camp including one family room. Each large, luxurious room is raised off the ground on wooden decks and all the rooms have a bedroom, lounge, shower and full en-suite bathroom. Outdoor showers are standard. It is open on three sides, and the billowing curtains between the various areas create the sense of a yacht floating through the floodplains. Each room also has a plunge pool and 'sala' - a comfortable area to lie and relax, watching the waving grasses of the floodplain.
There are no specific child care facilities available at the camp, however guests over the age of 8 years old are welcome. Food and meal times can be adjusted to suit the younger guests where needed.
Each camp has its own raised dining, lounge and bar area tucked beneath a canopy of cool, shady, indigenous trees . Magnificent vistas across the Okavango Delta floodplains are a feature and there is even a star-gazing deck with comfortable cushions protruding into the floodplain.
Vumbura Plains Camp offers land, air and water activities, principally nature viewing in varied habitats in open 4x4 vehicles, nature walks, mokoro trips, hot air balloon safaris (available April to September at an extra cost) and boat excursions. This camp offers one of the best views of the Delta. You will be blown over with the tranquillity as soon as you walk through the big expansive open doors. Walk along the long wide deck and enjoy every angle of the Delta. Lounge by the fire in the resting area that overlooks the Delta as the stars and Milky Way paint the sky. Life moves slower here and you feel at peace with the earth in each step.

This camp is made up of Vumbura North and Vumbura South. South is a bit more intimate with a smaller communal area and fewer rooms set further back from the waters edge than Vumbura North, although both are exactly the same style. The camp itself is beautifully finished and they really have thought of everything. The rooms are incredibly private with large decks and private plunge pools, perfect for whiling away the hours between activities. The food deserves a mention - light dinners, beautifully presented with a multitude of wines to choose from and the staff are more than happy to make recommendations for which pairs best with your dinner. It has a sociable bar area for people to gather around after their game drives but equally lots of places where you would be able to escape to relax and take in your surroundings.

The camp has two separate seven-room satellite camps; each with its own raised dining, lounge and bar area tucked beneath a canopy of cool, shady, indigenous trees and with a magnificent vista across the floodplains. Vumbura Plains is one of those lodges you will either love or hate. It is very untraditional and modern in design. But it has a fabulously spacious feel and loads of places to relax both in the main area or in your room. No little detail has been over looked one of many favorite touches were blankets on the back of your chair for dinner on the deck. I also loved the huge deep sofa’s round the camp fire - which where lovely to curl up in after dinner with an Amarula.
