Insider's View

An authentic and honest safari camp in the heart of pristine wilderness. Fantastic hosting and guiding and amazing wildlife sightings.

Watch the procession of animals gingerly make their way down to the edge of the lagoon to drink during the heat of the day.

Join a night drive and request a guided talk of the stars, you will learn so much whilst staring up at the beautiful skies undisturbed by any natural light.

Khwai tented camp is sat right in front of a popular hippo pool. Relax with a drink in hand and try and catch a photo of a big gaping hippo yawn

To start planning your vacation to Khwai Tented Camp

Khwai Tented Camp is situated in a community-run concession on the western border of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Enjoy a wide variety of safari activities including day and night drives, walking safaris and mokoro trips when water levels permit.

The Khwai concession is a great example of a community living in peaceful co-existence with wildlife. It is a fantastic demonstration of the direct benefits to both man and wildlife stemming from responsibly managed tourism.

African Bush Camps, the owners of Khwai Tented Camp, have chosen an exclusive area between the Moremi Game reserve and the community-run concession for Khwai Tented Camp. The camp itself is set on the banks of a lagoon which flows into the Khwai River.

This area is prolific year-round for both birdlife and wildlife. Healthy numbers of all mammals are found commonly in this area, and sightings of large breeding herds of elephant and buffalo are common. Khwai is also well known for consistent predator sightings and some of the rarer species such as the sitatunga antelope. Activities here are varied, facilitating a truly all-round safari experience.

Six traditional safari tents are raised on wooden decking with private verandahs overlooking the lagoon. The communal areas are also raised on decks, you'll find a dining area and a comfortable sitting area in which to relax and watch wildlife coming to the lagoon to drink. A brilliant addition to the tented camp is the family cottage, a little distance down the lagoon. This is a fantastic opportunity for a family with children of any age to experience an authentic and exclusive African safari at a great price.

Six spacious Meru tents are raised on wooden decks, each is en-suite with a flush loo and an al-fresco safari bucket shower. The fantastic family cottage has a shady verandah with great views over the lagoon. The indoor space is open plan, a curtain divider separates the children's area from the parents bedroom and lounge. A family of four can comfortably share the cottage.

There is no age restriction at African Bush Camps' Khwai camp. The owners have a young family who regularly head into the bush with their mum and dad to experience the exciting sights and sounds. Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to join the guide on a walking safari, however, specially tailored nature walks around camp are on offer.

All rooms have flushing loos and en-suite safari showers, the cottage has a bath and shower with running water. The camp uses a combination of solar and generator power to provide power and charging facilities in the main, communal camp area.

Activities with your experienced guide include game drives, walking safaris, night drives and mokoro safaris. The camp is in a beautiful location, you may find yourself staying behind while others head out to see what wanders up to the lagoon to drink.
