Chilo Gorge Tented Camp

Located on the banks of the Runde in Gonerezhou National Park sits Chilo Tented Camp, a seasonal Meru-style camp perfect for those wishing to explore the Ivory Trail and to learn about the history of the Ivory Hunters of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Chilo Gorge Tented Camp
  • The camp is nestled on the banks of a river which draws in a huge population of elephants as well as the elusive wild dog and other plains game.

  • Sister property to the permanent lodge Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge, this tented camp takes a more traditional approach to the safari experience.

  • With only three camps sharing over 5,000km2 of wilderness, Gonarezhou National Park is one of the quietest areas in Zimbabwe.

This seasonal camp runs during the dry season from May to October to offer the best time to experience the Ivory Trail with more stable weather and cooler nights. The camp comprises traditional Meru-style tents positioned in the most game rich region of the reserve. Tents are simple and rustic, in keeping with the rugged nature of Gonarezhou. Tall enough to walk around in, and each coming with twin beds and en-suite open-air bathrooms with a shower toilet and washbasin, providing all of the home comforts needed for a pleasant stay.

From camp guests can enjoy views over the opposite bank of the river where a wide open flood plain is home to numerous zebra, eland and impala. The raised position of the camp location means that guests can watch the continuous movement of elephants in and out of the river as they come down to drink, cool off and even play. A guide will be on hand to take guests out to explore this spectacular region on foot or in game vehicles. This prime location means guests will seldom have to travel far to find game, in fact we would encourage you to do less and allow the bush to come to you.
