Average time to visit

Los Angeles has a year-round climate. Summer (June - September) is the peak-tourist season, this is when the weather is hottest but beaches can be over crowded. January and February are the rainiest months. If you are visiting in May, June or July, watch out for the 'marine layer', a cloudy overcast, almost fog-like cloud which may affect the beach and first mile or so of the coastal strip, especially in the mornings.

The Beverly Hills Hotel is situated on Sunset Boulevard one of the most prominent streets in Los Angeles. Famous not only for its grand mansions and homes to the stars the area has plenty to offer in the way of galleries, museums, fine restaurants and an exciting nightlife.

Built by Margaret Anderson in 1912 on land developed by Burton Green, the hotel was the first major structure in the area and was named after Green’s home in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts. The surrounding area was later to become the City of Beverly Hills, literally built around the landmark hotel and 100 years on it's one of the most loved hotels of Hollywood's rich and famous. The hotel continues to inspire, even the famed Bungalow 8 nightclub in New York was named after the bungalow suites with interiors replete with palm trees and poolside murals.

Nestled atop 12 acres of gardens the hotel houses 208 rooms and suites and offers the ambience of a city resort with a palm lined pool and public areas reminiscent of timeless Hollywood glamour. Each room and suite offers a variety of unique features such as private garden patios, kitchens, fireplaces, and balconies with gorgeous views of the palm-lined avenues of Beverly Hills.

On the doorstep to some of the world's best shopping, The Beverly Hills Hotel is close to the Golden Triangle, with Rodeo Drive running through the center and bordered by Santa Monica Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard. Tours of many of the Hollywood studios are easily accessible, and golf enthusiasts will find a number of golf resorts in the area.

Incredible. A true classy Hollywood red carpet feel on arrival, the hotel is grand and elegant but not stuffy or dated. It has a promenade 1950's candy shop feel and dcor in the lower lobby and pool area. Staff here are super efficient and go out if their way to help, without fuss. Rooms are classic and spacious with a high end classic finish but with modern technology touches like self adjusting lights and sensor air con. We were sad to leave this truly classy hotel.

LAs pink palace was there before it all started. If you would like to submerge yourself into the epitome of old glamour Hollywood, this is the place to come to. From the stunning setting through to the red carpet that greets every guest in great pomp ceremony on their arrival, every guest that stays here receives just that little hint of Hollywood star treatment themselves. Far from being stuffy, this is actually all quite fun. Theres something quite wonderful about being transported into such a glamorous world, with everything these days being so relaxed and casual I get quite thrill from walking into the ladies powder room to find in beautifully adorned with gold taps, sumptuous mirrors and even chairs for ladies to sit and re touch their hair and make up to keep that ultra glamorous faade in place. I almost expect Bette Davis or Ginger Rogers to float in any moment. Its slightly thrilling to be in place that has Hollywood glamour and history literally pulsing through its hallways, if those walls could talk. Im shown to the beautifully appointed bedrooms, recently refreshed but retaining that traditional feel. Theyre lovely, very spacious although I would definitely recommend one with a balcony at least to make the most of that LA fresh air! Probably most famous are the Beverly Hills Hotel bungalows. Set in the beautifully lush gardens, they give just that little more privacy and space and are a firm favorite amongst guests. For the ultimate in bungalow luxury, head for the Presidential bungalow which comes complete with its own very private pool and one of the most glamorous and stunning bathrooms Ive ever seen, totally fit for a star!

Back to the hotel itself and we wander down to the pool and sun terraces, notably bedecked in beautiful looking people. I note that there is a no photos policy down here to protect the privacy of the many famous faces that frequent the hotel. Its the kind of place that I would imagine it would be extremely poor taste to be star struck outwardly should an A lister pass by, but inside, just a little thrilling at least. Probably the most likely place for a celebrity spot would be the famous Polo Lounge. The dark green velvet booths have seen many a movie deal signed in their time and even now are regularly accommodating Hollywood big cheeses, both from in front of and behind the camera. Im just a little excited to be having lunch there on my visit and choose a prime spot out of the tranquil and very pretty patio for a little celebrity spotting. The service is impeccable, as would be expected, and the menu for lunch offers a wonderfully diverse selection from the typically Hollywood whole food ever so healthy salad (which I pick, well, when in Hollywood..) through to steak and many a decadent morsel. My lunch is tasty and beautifully presented. Im surrounded by ladies who lunch, men in suits and visitors like me and Im sure that much juicy business is being done but sadly for me today, not a whiff of a famous face. I depart with heavy heart, I want to stay longer, I want to submerge myself in the old Hollywood glamour and be part of it. This really is a wonderful place to spend a few days, when in Hollywood where else could be better!

When I am at work, dreaming of vacations, The Beverly Hills Hotel is usually on my mind. Sunbathing by the swimming pool - palm trees swaying overhead, glamorous people all around and rose cooling - it's hard not to feel like you're in a Hollywood movie. While it is utterly old-fashioned and fabulous, it's not at all stuffy with service both friendly and discreet. Around the pool couples and families hangout, on sun beds or in private cabanas, ordering refreshing drinks and reading endless stacks of designer magazines supplied by the pool boys and girls.

The hotel has undergone a renovation of all of its guest rooms, with the A-list Bungalows to be completed next year. The rooms have kept their pale-pink elegance, but been transported into the modern age with cleaner lines and art-deco influence. They'll now appeal to the traditionalist and the modernist. A highlight of our stay was a lunch reservation at the Polo Lounge, the signature Taco Soup and Lobster Salad was perfect for a light bite in the Beverly Hills sunshine. Afterwards I tried to work it off by taking the complimentary town car to hip Melrose Avenue for designer and local LA boutiques galore. After just an hour, I was longing to return to take a dip in what has to be LA's most dreamy swimming pool. Thank goodness for Uber!
