Chiang Rai
Gateway to the north and the Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai is a laidback city on the banks of the Kok River, surrounded by lush rice fields. With a number of beautiful temples, including the intriguing Wat Rong Khun, it is an interesting base from which to explore the hill tribe villages and verdant countryside of northern Thailand.
After exploring the Lanna culture and hill tribes of the Chiang Rai province, get out into the countryside with some excellent hiking trails, mountain biking and golf. Striking views, panoramic vistas of the emerald countryside, and lush flora and fauna abound in this more remote region of Thailand.
