To start planning your vacation to Gondwana Game Reserve

Gondwana is a private game reserve situated along the beautiful Garden Route in South Africa. Gondwana is the perfect destination for families, couples and anyone in search of a safari wilderness within easy access of Cape Town or Plettenburg Bay.

For being so close to both Cape Town and Plettenburg Bay, Gondwana Game Reserve has some great game viewing opportunities for anyone looking to go on safari along the Garden Route. Gondwana is the only fynbos reserve in the world that is home to free-roaming Big Five Game, as well as other species such as the Cape Mountain zebra and the Black Harrier.

The reserve is ideally situated only a twenty five minute drive from Mossel Bay and hence perfectly combines the safari experience with beach activities: surfing, golf and a whole host of other fun things to do. Gondwana Game Reserve offers a unique safari vacation in a malaria-free zone and guests can look forward to attentive service, luxury accommodation, expert game rangers and superb cuisine.

The two accommodation options are the Bush Villas which are ideal for families or groups. These are three, luxury, self-catered villas, all situated within a large, safe area which is fenced and inhabited with plains game. The other option is more suited to couples and is the Kwena Lodge, which has fourteen cottage rooms, all with unbelievable views across the valley and skylights for star gazing at night.

Gondwana’s goal is to continue to expand its current 11,000 hectare area and provide the Western Cape with a large eco-tourism destination, the reserve has already reintroduced the first endangered black rhino to the Western Cape from where they historically came, and the wildlife population continues to grow year upon year.

Gondwana Game Reserve offers a diverse selection of luxury safari lodge accommodation. Kwena Lodge has fourteen open plan rooms, which have all been designed to make the most of the beauty of the surrounding area, with 180-degree views and skylights for star gazing. All rooms are en-suite with deep baths and walk in showers. They also have their own private patios and fireplaces for when the evenings get cooler. The other option for guests are the three chic bush villas with two, three and four en-suite bedroom options. The Bush Villas are family friendly with luxurious bedrooms, private decks and spacious bathrooms. Lehele Lodge is situated very close to the Bush Villas and has gourmet meals and an infinity pool overlooking the valley.

Children of all ages are welcome at Gondwana. However, children under 12 may not stay at Kwena Lodge as the rooms are separate and do not cater for families. The Bush Villas are ideal for families to stay at and there are a whole host of activities to keep children entertained and babysitting can be arranged. There is a children's menu available at all times and dinner can be organized in your villa or in the boma for children under twelve either with their parents or a sitter.

The Spa offers a full treatment menu, utilizing the luxurious Africology product range. Treatments can be in the double treatment room or open air for a truly “au natural” experience. In addition guests can request in room treatments for the ultimate in privacy and ease. During their stay, guests are treated to surprise bush breakfasts, boma barbecues, romantic picnics and evening sundowners. The rooms and main lodges are all decorated to top standards and all rooms have fireplaces for the colder months.

Kwena Lodge has an infinity pool and if guests are staying at the Bush Villas, they can use the pool at the nearby Lehele Lodge.

Gondwana offers a whole range of activities and guests can choose to do as much or as little as they like. Game drives are the main activity on offer and the vastness of the wildlife game reserve, coupled with the area’s excellent climate and terrain, make the land suited to multiple species of game.

Children age 6-12 years can really benefit by taking part on the Junior Ranger Experience where they will go on educational drives and gain a greater understanding of conservation and eco systems, in a fun and interactive way.

The Garden Route has a whole host of activities on offer such as the 18-hole championship golf course, Pinnacle Point only a 20-minute drive away has fantastic beaches for surfing and adrenalin fuelled activities, such as cage diving with Great White Sharks.
