Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
This corner of South Africa has a wonderful temperate climate which can be visited all year round. The best game viewing is from May to the end September.
Summer (November to March) days can get quite warm (up to 28-32 degrees on average) but it is a dry heat. Summer rainfall, normally in the form of thunder storms are usually in the evening, however, the African climate is still always unpredictable. Fall (April to May) days can still be warm but the evenings cool down. Average day time temperature 22-28 degrees. Evenings 10-15 degrees. Winter (June to August) days are warm (temperatures in the mid-twenties) evenings and early mornings very cold with average early morning temperatures 5-12 degrees. It very rarely rains at this time when the bush is golden and dry.
Spring (September, October) days start getting hotter, evenings and mornings could still be crisp but not as cold. A very slim chance of rain.

To start planning your vacation to Camp Davidson
Description
Camp Davidson is the sister camp to Horizon Horseback Safari's flagship camp, and occupies a beautiful spot high up in the bushveld with stunning views over the picturesque Matlapeng Valley. With only 3 tents the camp is perfect for a family exclusively.
Camp Davidson has been built to encapsulate the atmosphere of the early camps which once dotted this area. In the late 19th century Ted Davidson, one of the first members of the Baber family to settle in the Waterberg, was a young man trading by ox wagon to remote cattle outposts of a young ranching area. In those days, a day's work could mean traveling only five kilometers, so the evenings were spent by the camp fire.
The Camp is simple, beautifully appointed and authentic; decked canvas tents nestle in the sandstone ridges overlooking lush grassy valleys, the views stretching to the central highlands of the Waterberg massif, and overlooking the picturesque Sunset Lake. Each tent is authentically appointed, harking back to the days of explorers past and hsve an en-suite bathroom with traditional bucket showers.
Your days at Camp Davidson are varied - horse-riding safaris are key of course, and the camp has a variety of excellent horses just raring to go. Generally rides head out in the early morning, when the air is cool, returning to camp for a delicious brunch before an afternoon relaxing. As the heat of the sun fades, head out again on horseback, approaching game such as giraffe closely. In the evenings, relax around the camp fire with stories and a cold drink.
Camp Davidson offers a totally authentic experience with superb horses and a real taste of the Waterberg in days gone by. Just 15-minutes away from its sister-camp, Horizon Horseback, the camp is perfect for families who want to maximize their time in the saddle - activities as varied as polo-crosse and swimming with the horses are on offer, and younger riders will enjoy the cross-country jumping and gymkhana games organized by the camp.
