Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.
Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

Reviews
Olivia Smith (Staff)
The Coromandel is an area that both myself and my family love dearly and I was thrilled to discover 970 Lonely Bay Lodge tucked away behind Cooks Beach. Immediately on arrival (despite surprising poor Loring by being early!) I was welcomed as if I was a long lost friend.
The Lodge is stunningly designed, understated, simple and very elegant with beautiful art and classic furnishings. The garden is also incredibly pretty, with lanterns hanging in the trees and a fabulous roll-top bath hidden away, perfect for a balmy summer night of star-gazing with a glass of champagne! Each room is unique and extremely comfortable, with private decking and a light, bright feel.
Loring is the most wonderfully welcoming hostess, with a real passion for the property and she is truly a chef in disguise! Her prawn, zucchini and lemon risotto was to die for, even after the delicious selection of local cheese which was gratefully enjoyed. Before dinner, she had taken me for a guided walk over the hill to the secluded Lonely Bay, from which the property takes its name, and watched the moon rise and looked out for dolphins, whilst combing the beach for beautiful shells.
For those looking to explore real New Zealand and relax in an elegant, peaceful home, a visit to 970 is an absolute must. From kayaking to Cathedral Cove (the backdrop to the 'Narnia' films) to digging a hole in the sand on Hot Water Beach to enjoy your own natural hot pool, the Coromandel is full of hidden gems and 970 Lonely Bay Lodge is certainly one of them.
