Himba Villages - Northern Namibia
During a visit to the Himba Village, you will see how they eke out their existence in one of the harshest places on earth, breeding cattle and goats. The homesteads are small, circular hamlets of huts surrounding a fire, and you will be able to meet the occupants and learn about their lives. Himba women are famous for covering their bodies with a mixture of butter fat and ochre, giving them a reddish tinge, said to symbolize the color of the earth.
So far, the Himba are largely untouched by outside influences, and maintain much of their traditional lifestyle. To spend a morning amongst the Himba is fascinating; children will run and play around you and the women will be very interested to see their picture on your camera!
