Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.
Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.
The monsoon season usually runs from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more color to the landscape.
October to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

The Taj Lake Palace is a world famous luxury hotel that sits exclusively in the middle of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. With the lake and backdrop of the Aravalli mountains the palace has the most unique of settings and is an unforgettable experience.
Probably one of the most romantic hotels in the world, Udaipur’s 250-year old Taj Lake Palace offers guests a unique blend of serenity and opulence. The exquisite white marble palace, which appears to float on the still waters of Lake Pichola was built in the 18th century on a natural foundation of four acres of rock by Maharana Jagat Singh II.
The hotel is reached by boat and offers 83 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites with fabulous views overlooking the lake and the Aravalli mountains. Rooms are adorned with elegant old-world artifacts, furniture and glass mosaics giving a truly luxurious feel.
The Lily Pond Courtyard is perfect place for al fresco dinners along with theme events on the Mewar Terrace. You can also take lake trips on the ceremonial barge for exclusive parties.
Despite being on its own small island, has plenty of facilities such as the beautiful swimming pool, Jiva spa and two restaurants offering both Indian and international cuisine. The hotel will be happy to arrange cultural excursions to explore Udaipur and the surrounding area or even a spa experience on the spa boat which can sail to calm and scenic spot on the lake.
This property is perhaps Rajasthan's most iconic hotel and an amazing choice to experience Udaipur in style.
The Taj Lake Palace offers 83 rooms and suites which feature luxurious silks, painted murals, and beautifully carved wood furniture. All offer views over the lake and the Aravalli mountains in the distance.
Children are welcome to come and stay at Taj Lake Palace. A children's program runs and abysitting can be arranged upon request.
The hotel boasts four wonderful restaurants serving Asian, Indian, contemporary western and Italian dishes. You can choose to eat either by the lily pond, poolside or rooftop. There are also private butlers on hand to arrange a private dining venue for you anywhere else you may prefer to create a very memorable experience.
Jiva Spa embraces a deep understanding of mind, body and spirit to make each individual feel relaxed, calm and rejuvenated through an assortment of treatments and exercises. The trained therapists use natural products in a peaceful setting to make you feel better.
The hotel offers complimentary use of the swimming pool. Boating excursions, cultural tours and spa treatments are charged at an additional cost. You can visit the spectacular Monsoon and City Palaces, the latter has a museum inside showcasing an impressive collection of ancient sculptures, curios, antiques and inscriptions.

The Taj Lake Palace is a very luxurious and characterful property, and is only accessible by boat. The hotel, including the bedrooms, has been beautifully furnished and decorated, leading to a very opulent stay. The service here is very much at an international standard, and the views across the city are incredible.

This is a very special place; from the dock on the mainland you know full well youre going somewhere which promises to be spectacular. Entering through a shower of rose petals, the lobby is old fashioned yet stylish and this remains throughout the hotel, though the courtyards, rooms and restaurants. Its pretty spa is home to a modest pool and traditional dancing is on show each night to entertain you. I strongly suggest booking a Royal Suite for the wow factor and a more spacious bathroom with a separate walk in shower and roll top bath.

The Lake Palace really does feel like it has been removed directly from the pages of a fairy tale book especially now it has been resorted to its former glory. One of my favorite things about the hotel was going up onto the roof of the palace and looking over to the beautiful city palace buildings.
