What type of accommodation is right for me?

Choosing the right accommodation can make or break your ski vacation. We’ve put together some handy hints and tips to consider…

What type of accommodation is right for me

Whole chalet

Best for: Family groups, groups of friends

The lowdown: Chalets work well for skiers on so many levels. Let our chefs and hosts take the strain – so you don’t waste valuable mountain time on shopping, cooking and washing up. Meanwhile hotels might not take kindly to you turning up to breakfast and supper in a dressing gown or onesie but our chalet teams won’t bat an eyelid. Hot tubs, steam rooms and swimming pools are great for soothing aching muscles but, let’s face it, we don’t always look our best once the skiwear comes off in the middle of winter, so having one you don’t have to share with strangers is infinitely more appealing. For families with babies, toddlers and children, they can tear around to their hearts content without embarrassing you – and after they have gone to bed, you can enjoy supper in peace without the need for a babysitter. Finally, whether you want another glass of wine or a cup of coffee, you can enjoy your vacation without worrying about an ‘extras’ bill.

Not recommended for: Couples looking for a romantic getaway, those who prefer eating out in restaurants every night.

Our tip: Chalets are not necessarily only for big groups. Nearly half of our chalets have just two or three bedrooms and are perfect for one family.

Did you know: We have 25 chalets, in 4 resorts, in 3 different countries, sleeping up to 217 people at a time!

Shared chalet

Best for: Social butterflies wanting to meet other like-minded people on vacation.

The lowdown: If you’re keen to stay in a larger chalet but don't have a big enough group of people to fill it, you can still enjoy the chalet experience by staying in a shared chalet with others. You can take as many rooms as you need.

Not recommended for: Those reluctant to make small talk over meals!

Did you know: We designate our shared chalets “adult only” or “family” so that everyone knows what to expect.

Hotel

Best for: Couples looking for a romantic vacation, more flexible transfer days, people who want to eat out in the evening and anyone looking for specific facilities or who wants to ski in a resort where hotel accommodation is the only option.

The lowdown: Hotels come in all shapes and sizes, some are family-owned and run, others belong to larger hotel groups. If you prefer to choose from a menu at dinner or simply prefer the atmosphere of a hotel then this is the best option for you.

Not recommended for: Families with young children, especially where there are no specific childcare facilities – you don’t want to shell out for a babysitter while you have dinner.

Did you know: We offer almost 100 hotels in 21 ski resorts across Europe and North America – spoiled for choice!

Self-catering

Best for: Anyone keen to be more independent on vacation, families with older children and those who prefer eating out in the evenings or who simply want to cook for themselves.

The lowdown: Sometimes you want a little more freedom to do your own thing on vacation, especially if the kids are older and you enjoy eating out together in the evenings or simply want to be more independent. However, these days self-catering doesn’t mean being left to fend entirely for yourself. We provide some little extras to make it easier for you, a welcome hamper, daily delivery of fresh bread and pastries and an in-resort team on hand to help with booking restaurants or solving any problems!

Not recommended for: Those who can’t or won’t cook on vacation and need a break from doing the chores on vacation.

North America

And finally, if you’ve ever thought about spreading your wings and venturing further afield, then it’s worth remembering that a hotel in North America can often provide similar value to an option in Europe. This is by and large due to the fact there are some incredible early booking deals available in advance of the season, often resulting in savings of up to 60%.

Best for: Anyone who feels they’ve done Europe, looking for a new ski experience, love immaculately groomed pistes and endless powder fields. And of course the friendly service that the North Americans are renowed for.

The lowdown: Where to start? Well the chances are if you’re considering North America as an option, you’re probably a seasoned skier with several vacations in Europe under your belt. North America offers a different ski vacation experience and the snow is at the heart of this. It regularly outdoes Europe in terms of quality and quantity and you don’t really understand this until you’ve experience it first-hand. The best hotels generally tend to be part of the larger hotel chains but you can often stay in condominiums and occasionally private homes if there’s a group of you. If you’re prepared to take a longer flight then the all-round ski experience more than compensates.

Not recommended for: Those adverse to longer plane journeys, anyone who prefers a chalet-style vacation – the ‘catered’ chalet simply doesn’t exist in North America.

Did you know: Colorado benefits from over 300 days of sunshine per year, meaning that there are bluebird days a-plenty!
