Connemara
The rugged beauty of Connemara makes it one of Ireland’s most romantic landscapes. Bordered by a wild sea, its starkly beautiful interior is crisscrossed with stone walls, as if a lace shawl has been lain over its fertile fields. A rainbow of wildflowers bow their heads against the often blustering wind, while cragged mountainsides tumble down to peaty lakes.
Ireland’s Celtic mythology comes alive in this windswept landscape, with the sacred peak of Croagh Patrick, atmospheric abbeys and desolate crofts but the region is also firmly in the 21st century, with kite surfing, rock climbing and mountain biking taking you deep into this ancient land.
