Nordic climate - May, June and July are the driest months of the year. Mid-June to August is high season, but most highland tours don’t operate until July because of snow. At other times, many tourist facilities outside Reykjavík are closed. From September through March, the night is dark enough to see the Aurora Borealis.

The Konsulat Hotel is a brand new boutique hotel in the heart of Reykjavik. The hotel is part of the Hilton Brand of hotels but it is set in a historic building and it only has 50 rooms so it feels quite special. The Konsulat is perfectly placed near the concert hall, the Parliament Buildings and the main shopping district so exploring the compact city is easy from this hotel. The rooms are contemporary and spacious and the bathrooms are bigger than most city hotels. The rooms have Nespresso Machines, bathrobes and slippers and a mini fridge. The hotel has a 24 hour fitness center and a small wellness spa. I enjoyed the spa early in the morning and I had the jacuzzi all to myself. The Gott Restaurant offers a beautiful buffet breakfast with hot and cold items and they also offer lunch, dinner and rooms service throughout the day. There is also a lobby bar that offers drinks and light snacks in the afternoon and it seemed quite popular with the locals. This hotel felt more luxurious than any of the other hotels in the city and I would recommend it for couples. The only downside that I could find during our short stay was the fact that they have painted the corridors dark green and it does not seem to blend with the contemporary design of the rooms.

I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. When we stayed, it was just 4 months old and brings a new level of luxury to Reykjavik. Rooms are big and extremely comfortable, with huge walk in showers and lovely furnishings. The hotel has a very sophisticated feel, sofas adorn the bar area and the restaurant is smart without feeling stuffy. The jewel in the crown for this property is its 'Bath House' in the basement of the property. This gorgeous spa boasts a huge jacuzzi and sauna, with plenty of changing space and abundant fluffy towels, robes and slippers. The staff were charming and nothing was too much trouble for them. Another great aspect to this boutique hotel is its location, right in the very heart of this sweet and bustling little city.
