Xining

The largest city on the Tibetan Plateau, Xining is the capital of Qinghai province. With its melting pot of cultures and wealth of surrounding natural beauty, including the stunning Qinghai Lake, Xining has been the gateway to the arrestingly beautiful landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau since the time of the Silk Road.

Xining

Perhaps most famous as the terminus for the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, this vibrant provincial capital offers a lively mix of ethnic groups, diverse cuisine and the largest inland and salt water lake in China. Explore Xining’s temples, mosques and museums and venture just outside the city to discover the sacred Kumbum Monastery that dates back to 1577, built on the mountain slopes.
