Day time temperatures are luminous and agreeable all year round. A characteristic of the desert climate is the marked fluctuation in temperature between day and night. In winter (June, July and August) the average temperature is 22ºC during the day and at night it goes down to around 4ºC; temperatures can occasionally go below freezing. In summer (December to February) the temperature varies between 28ºC during the day and 16ºC at night. During these months the temperature can reach 32ºC. January-March can sometimes receive a little rainfall and cloudy skies.
On February 2, the biggest festival in San Pedro, Festival de la Candelaria, features a large parade of bands and dancers.

Tierra Atacama is a luxury boutique hotel located on the outskirts of the oasis village of San Pedro in Chile's breathtaking Atacama Desert. Guests at Tierra Atacama experience warm hospitality, delicious cuisine and exciting excursions.
Tierra Atacama was created by the Purcell family, long time owners and operators of Chile's Portillo Ski Resort and Hotel, famed in Chile for its excellent skiing, food and warm hospitality. Tierra Atacama follows the same ethos as Portillo, providing guest experiences combining options for adventure and activities with a high level of comfort and service. Guests at Tierra Atacama can venture out during the day (if they so wish!) knowing they can be pampered in a relaxing haven on their return.
The guest rooms at Tierra Atacama all have private terraces and all have views of the Licancabur volcano, with the exception of the Family Rooms, which overlook the gardens. Much thought has been given to the interior decoration, with many of the materials sourced locally to reflect the local culture. Cow hides, hand made textiles and crafts have been used to furnish both the guest rooms and general areas, decorated in a neo-minimal style with elegant woods and subtle chocolate and sand tones.
Arguably one of the highlights at Tierra Atacama is the indulgent spa, with steam bath, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath and a wide variety of rejuvenating massages, facials, body wraps, scrubs and alternative therapies on offer. There is also an indoor heated pool with water jets and an outdoor pools with luxuriant chaise longues, perfect for relaxing with a book.
In addition to all the excellent services at the hotel, guests at Tierra Atacama can also partake in a variety of excursions in the surrounding Atacama region, from bird watching, wildlife tours, stargazing, walks through salt caves to dune surfing and volcano climbing.
Rooms at Tierra Atacama are divided into the more romantic Oriente Rooms, the slightly more spacious Poniente rooms and the Family Rooms, perfect for families or small groups, with three individual bedrooms and bathrooms set over two floors. All rooms have their own private terrace and the Oriente and Poniente Rooms feature outdoor showers.
Children are more than welcome to come and stay at Tierra Atacama. An extra bed can be accommodated in the Poniente Rooms or for a larger family we would suggest the dedicated Family Rooms with three bedrooms and bathrooms. It is important to note that small children may not always adapt easily to the high altitude.
Tierra Atacama features a relaxing living area, library, elegant dining area, bar and the excellent Uma Spa, with Jacuzzi, steam room and Turkish bath. There is also an indoor and an outdoor pool and plenty of areas for relaxation with chairs and comfortable loungers.
A variety of excursions can be arranged from Tierra Atacama into the surrounding Atacama desert, including visits to the shimmering Altiplanic lagoons, the El Tatio geysers, the Puritama hot springs, local villages and the impressive salt flats. These excursions are led by expert bilingual guides and range from half to full day excursions. Other adventure activities on offer include hiking, biking, horse riding and even volcano climbing.

Tierra is all about clean lines, contemporary wood and glass and great views. It is the place where the fire pits have arguably the best direct views over Licancabur Volcano and the mountains. There are open plan reception rooms and dining areas all opening onto the views and the dcor is all wood and local stone. Modern contemporary suites and rooms, this property also has a fantastic Spa with Indoor and outdoor pool and full facilities with relaxing areas also benefitting from the view. Rooms are modern and very well appointed all have views either to the Licancabur Volcano at ground level with an outside private seating area or at a higher level with views in both directions and a seating deck.
An excursion program is offered by the hotel to the main highlights of the area. This is a hotel for those who like to enjoy city sophistication and spa facilities even in a remote area.

At Tierra Atacama they have really thought of everything, they way the hotel is designed allows for incredible views from every corner and really blends in with the surroundings. All of the staff are so warm and really put the guests needs first. I had some incredible meals during my stay and even when out on excursions the guides made sure that we were never hungry. Make sure you head to the spa for a bit of relaxation after experiences and enjoy a night time drink by the fire pits.

Located just outside the oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama, Tierra Atacama is a luxury retreat set on 5 hectares of land. My favorite thing about the lodge is its amazing views of the Andean Mountain Range and Licancabar Volcano. Each of the 32 rooms boast views of the volcano and have been built using traditional materials to reflect the surrounds of the Atacama desert with use of adobe bricks, wood, bamboo and woollen rugs. There is a huge degree of flexibility here, where staff work around the guests needs to ensure the quality of their stay. The guiding here is excellent and with over 30 excursions on offer there is plenty to enjoy. After a days exploring, I would recommend a visit to the Uma Spa and indulge in one of the many treatments on offer or to simply relax by the poolside with a chilled pisco sour and soak up the breathtaking view.

Tierra Atacama is a design-focused lodge in Atacama and perfect for honeymooners or couples who like to blend stylish surroundings with adventure in the Atacama desert. The open-plan main lodge is a great place to mingle with other guests discussing the day's activities over drinks or dinner before chilling by the fire. The ultra modern spa has an indoor and outdoor pool which has breathtaking views of the Licancabur volcano.
This hotel in the Atacama Desert is one of the most ambitious new design statements in South America. This family owned property, steps from the town of San Pedro de Atacama, is bordered by ancient native algarroba and chanar trees. The owners, along with a team of architects, photographers, and a landscape painter, were inspired by the surrounding landscape. Inside, the 34 rooms are swathed in natural beiges and browns, and at the 4,850-square-foot spa, couples can book decadent treatments using local volcanic mud, salts, and herbs. Tierra Atacama will also arrange for a sunrise excursion to El Tatio geyser, or a rock-climbing lesson in the village of Socaire. They can also set up a mountaintop picnic.

Hot Air Ballooning Atacama
Spend a morning hot air ballooning over the Atacama Desert. Glide above the moon-like desert, the explosive Tatio Geysers and the sleepy San Pedro de Atacama.
Half day excursion to the Moon Valley.
Stargazing in the Atacama
The pristine skies of Atacama Desert are a stargazer’s paradise. The altitude and bone-dry atmosphere make them incredibly clear, and you can see the planets, stars and galaxies up close with philosopher-cum-astronomer Alain Maury.
Toconao & Salar de Atacama
Head into the Atacama Desert to visit the atmospheric village of Toconao, before continuing to the great Salar de Atacama, a huge saltpan where flamingos and many bird species feed against a majestic backdrop of the high Andes.
