This hilly country is hot throughout the year and the only relief from the high temperatures and humidity is to be found up in the highlands, where conditions are cooler and crisper, especially at night. Rainfall in Panama is very heavy on the Pacific coast and less so (but still substantial) in the lowlands of the Caribbean coast. The rainy season runs from May to December and downpours can be torrential, so always pack good waterproofs if going at this time of year. Sunshine levels are highest in the winter months (January to April), so this is a good time to visit, especially if you can stay in the hills where the air is fresher.

The Bristol is definitely one of Panama City's most exclusive hotels and acts as a very comfortable base in the city. The hotel has recently been refurbished to a high level and offers understated elegance with all the mod cons one would expect. The very comfortable beds, butler service and air con in the city were a real treat after a week of adventure outside of the city where accommodation is more rustic. The Bristol is located in the financial district so you would need to jump in a cab to visit the tourist hot spots of Casco Viejo and the old town. What the area lacks for in character it makes up for in creature comforts and is a relaxing oasis from the hustle and bustle. If however you are looking to fully immerse yourself in the culture then the Casco Viejo would be a better location (lots of characterful boutique hotels are springing up here) and is overflowing with crumbling colonial architecture, a patchwork of cobblestone alleyways, one off little restaurants and color facades. It really is 'watch this space' with Panama City. It is undergoing renovation following years of neglect and we expect great things!!
The discreet and luxurious Bristol, located in the heart of the financial district, is arguably the best hotel in the city—in part because of its extremely attentive service. The impeccably turned out guest rooms (there are 44) and 12 suites don't hurt, either; all are spacious, decorated in rich colors with mahogany furniture and Panamanian art prints, and have bathrooms tiled in Italian marble. The communal areas include a small fitness room, an elegant restaurant serving regional dishes, and a bar with vintage cognacs and more than 50 kinds of rum.
