The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.
Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

Away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, and with arguably the best views of the Remarkables, Azur is a real gem. I spent my last night of a busy trip in South Island here and for me it was the perfect tranquil retreat. The villas are vast and all designed to soak up the gorgeous views, whether from your bed, the lounge or your terrace. The food is a real treat - with a beautiful afternoon tea served in the lounge or brought to your villa, pre-dinner drinks and canapes, and lovely breakfasts. I personally didn't find being a short drive from Queenstown to be a disadvantage at all - the peaceful location, away from the noise and bustle of the town is part of the charm here. It would be my personal choice in Queenstown every time.

The Villas at Azur Lodge are enormous, with soft and welcoming beds overlooking the stunning Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains. The bathrooms are a real treat, with baths next to the windows that fold back to soak up the amazing views. Each villa has a small seating area outside where you can have breakfast or pre-dinner drinks and canapés if you wish.
The Lodge served delicious breakfasts, the most amazing afternoon teas and pre-dinner canapés, but they do not provide dinner there. However, they can order take out for you from one of the many fantastic restaurants in Queenstown and they will plate up and serve for you if you wish, gourmet style! The property has a really informal and relaxed feel and would be ideal if you want to explore Queenstown whilst retaining some peace and quiet - coupled with the most stunning views.
