At a Glance
On arrival in China you will have three nights in Beijing, where you will have a fantastic introduction to the city. With so much to do and see here, Beijing is brilliant for those that really want to delve into the history and culture of China. Starting off with your private guide who will be with you for the next couple of days, we have included a visit to Jingshan Park where you can all take part in a beginners Chinese Course to get some basics down and to start off the competition of who can speak the best Chinese over the coming trip! For the rest of your time in Beijing we have included visits to the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven. Both are architectural gems and fantastic for people watching, especially in the morning, when locals come to practice exercise including Kung Fu and Tai Chi. Of course, no trip to Beijing would be complete without a trip out to The Great Wall of China which we have included on your second day in the city. This site is simply amazing and after exploring and on the way down instead of walking you can take a toboggan ride which we are sure the kids will love! In the evenings, we can make lots of recommendations for dinner and do suggest that you include a Kung Fu show one night in the traditional Red Theatre and try out the Night Food Market where anything and everything can be tasted!

From Beijing you’ll take the fast train to Xian, much easier than flying, and we can of course arrange porters to assist with luggage making the whole process super easy. On arrival in Xian you will be met by your private guide who will be with you for the next couple of days. Here we have included a quick tour of the Terracotta Army, which is a must on any trip to China, but do understand that museums are not for everyone in the family. Also in Xian we suggest a trip to the vibrant neighbourhood in the Islamic quarter, full of colour and interesting shops to explore. Xian is the start of the original Silk Road from China and the multicultural influences can still be felt in the city today.

After two nights in Xian it is then on to Guilin which you will reach after a direct flight of just over two hours. Full of tropical landscapes and low rise buildings it will feel completely different to Beijing and Xian. Also as Beijing and Xian were quite culturally heavy, Guilin allows some time to enjoy the surrounding countryside with rafting trips along the Li River and venturing out into the Longsheng and the Guilin Mountains. From here you can do some great walks and hikes through the rice terraces and small local villages, where you feel like you have stepped back in time. With your private guide over the three nights that you have here, you'll have plenty of chance to explore this beautiful landscape.

For your last stop in China you’ll take a direct flight from Guilin to Shanghai where you will spend your final three nights. Shanghai is such a fantastic, cosmopolitan city with plenty going on. With your private guide you’ll be able to explore the old and new sides of the city from the beautiful French Concession to the M50 which is full of cool, contemporary art. As your guiding will be completely private, you can of course tailor your experiences depending on how everyone is feeling. After a jampacked schedule, once in the city you may decide to take it a little slower, which of course is totally possible, just let us know! However, we would recommend that you include the fantastic Shanghai Acrobatics in your trip though, will be a brilliant finale!

The hottest time in China comes in July and August, with more than 10 days at temperatures above 35 C. The coldest time is from the late January to early February. The spring from March to May is recommended as the best time to travel to China
