Set in the Lamai triangle at the northern tip of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, Singita Mara River Tented Camp is set in an iconic location with the Mara River and Serengeti to the south and Kenya's Maasai Mara to the north.
Mara River Camp matches the Singita ambition to preserve iconic locations by offering 'fewer beds in larger areas', in this case 16 beds in an area of 40,000 hectares of protected wilderness.
Mara River Camp is located in the only year-round game rich area of the Serengeti. Resident plains game, big cats, buffalo and elephants are regular sightings in the rocky kopjes and riverine forest, and the Mara River holds a large population of crocodile and hippo. The camp’s location provides excellent opportunities to view the river crossings of the annual wildebeest migration, best between July and November.
Mara River Camp was conceptualised and designed by award winning South African Interior Designer Cécile & Boyd’s. Singita believe the luxurious attention to detail, combined with an atmosphere that enables Guests to make an authentic and meaningful connection with nature, has produced arguably the most beautiful interiors across the Singita portfolio.
Mara River Camp is a 100% 'off the grid' Camp, meaning it relies exclusively on a custom-designed solar power system of the latest technology. The Camp itself is designed to utilise breezes to cool both the communal areas and the tents, and is built from natural and recycled materials including wood, stone, canvas and raw leather, continuing the theme of sustainable living.
With Mara River Camp, Singita have celebrated the best of contemporary African design through a conscious focus on sourcing original work from talented young designers and craftspeople, hoping to inspire Guests to see local creativity in a fresh, new way. Campaign-style retro travel chests made from pale wood; wooden turned lights fashioned from sustainable Jacaranda wood; decorative wire baskets the exact shape and design of traditional grain-sorting baskets; and splashes of primary red and blue with black in Masaai-inspired patterns.
The Camp is fun and functional with a cool and relaxed atmosphere. The Singita style is evident in the trademark combination of elegance with laid back, relaxed style.
