With a huge diversity of habitats in a small area, Lake Manyara is a beautiful park to explore. Watch vervet monkeys leap through the trees in the forested areas, head to the lake shore to watch the flamingos, pelicans and hippos, or drive through the open savannah to spot plains game such as zebra and gazelles. The park is famed for its tree-climbing lions and scientists are still unsure about the reason for this behaviour - some believe it is as a vantage point to spot their prey, others contend it is down to insects which bother the lions in the grasslands. Whatever the reason, it's all the more exciting to keep looking upwards as well as ahead on your game drive!
